Job Description

Provides medical assistance to members and assists with meeting their healthcare needs. Services include assisting in examination and treatment of members (patients) under the direction of a physician, nurse practitioner or designee. Assists with interviewing members, measures vital signs under the direction of a psychiatrist or nurse practitioner, and records information in members electronic medical record on the day of service. Assists with coordination of health care needs of members to include primary care provider (PCP) coordination, coordinating provider appointments, follow up, obtaining medical records, and communicating and documenting member needs and information to the treatment team. Available to support all members needs at any clinic as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS FOR THIS POSITION

Performs duties required of medical assistants in this treatment system to include conducting brief evaluations and measuring vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height) and may include blood draws and urine collection, performing ECGs, and preparing specimens for laboratory analysis.

Assists with coordination of care for health care needs of members to include primary care provider (PCP) coordination, coordinating provider appointments, follow up, obtaining medical records, communicating and documenting member needs and information to treatment team ; also identifies opportunities to assist in meeting members healthcare needs.

Works in collaboration with medical staff and all team members to ensure that member needs are evaluated and addressed.

Identifies potential barriers to quality care and opportunities for improvement and reports them to psychiatrist or designee.

Updates member files and schedules medical tests.

Accurately and thoroughly documents all services and activities in the medical record according to policy using approved forms and electronic systems.

NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Participates in utilization management and quality improvement activities as required.

Covers other medical assistants at assigned clinic and at other clinics as needed.

Follows policies and procedures and adheres to the requirements of the Corporate Compliance Program.

Ensures confidentiality of verbal and written information in accordance with HIPAA standards and Southwest Network policy, and adheres to the legal, ethical and professional guidelines adopted by Southwest Network.

Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE, LICENSURE and CERTIFICATION

High school diploma or equivalency certificate required; associate degree preferred.

Medical assistant certificate required.

Phlebotomy experience required.

Psychiatric/behavioral health experience with seriously mentally ill adults and/or experience working with children preferred, but not required.

Must maintain current CPR, First Aid, and Therapeutic Options certifications.

Arizona state fingerprint clearance card and a valid Arizona drivers license required.

Must be at least 21 years of age.
