Responsibilities

Responsible for ensuring all vaccines in clinic are stored and handled correctly. May delegate duties to lower level staff.

  • Support physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and/or nurses by taking vitals, assisting in medical examinations and other specific procedures
  • Complete and monitor all lab work for quality assurance and ensure compliance with all auditing authorities.
  • Prepare patients for examination and assist providers with the examination and/or procedure
  • Oversee proper receipt, storage and transport of vaccine shipments
  • Ensure current Vaccine Information Statement is always used
  • Maintain all appropriate storage and handling documentation as set by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
  • Maintain storage equipment in compliance with CDC standards and manufacturers guidelines
  • Maintain records, including Vaccines for Children (VFC) and Adults (VFA) program documentation
  • Report and return vaccines within 30 days of expiration or spoilage
  • Store and label vaccines in storage units following CDC guidelines; ensure vaccines are organized within the unit and inspect storage unit daily
  • Check stock weekly and rotate when a shipment arrives so vaccine closest to expiration date is used first
  • Promptly remove expired vaccines from the storage unit; ensure never administered to a patient
  • Work with the San Diego Immunization Registry / Public Health Department to transfer vaccines close to expiration
  • Ensure a digital data logging thermometer with a current certificate of calibration is maintained for each vaccine storage unit
Qualifications

Minimum

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Clinical Medical Assistant Certification indicating completion of program from an approved school or hospital including externship
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Current CPR certification
  • Minimum of one year back office experience in a clinical environment
  • Phlebotomy experience; certificate preferred

Required Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Good knowledge of general back office procedures, such as taking vitals, performing venipuncture, administering immunizations, etc
  • Good comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology in English and Spanish
  • Emergency response capability for possible crisis situations
  • Experience/familiarity with computers, Microsoft Office products (Word/Excel), business e-mail communication systems and internet search capabilities

Pay Range

$23.00 - $26.50 DOE
