Mental Health Aids in Assessment Center

Mental Health Aids (BA/BS) ....do you want to make a difference in a childs life???? Have a rewarding position where you can help children and youth daily? We are looking for Mental Health Workers who can perform trauma-informed crisis stabilization in a new psychiatric stabilization unit.

The Emergency Screening Unit (ESU) serves Medi-Cal and unfunded youth throughout the county of San Diego. The ESU is a county-contracted program under the parent company of New Alternatives, Inc (NAI), a non-profit agency with programs in San Diego, Orange County and Costa Mesa.

ESU has been the only screening and assessment LPS facility for youth, in an acute psychiatric crisis, in the county since 1995. Due to the successful diversion rate of preventing youth from requiring inpatient psychiatric hospitalization, the county expanded the program from four to twelve beds and relocated the program to Hillcrest to be more centrally located.

We are currently looking to fill several Mental Health Aid (MHA) positions. Primary responsibilities would include, but are not limited to, direct care and supervision of youth on crisis unit, engaging youth on crisis unit in stabilization activities, completing Safety Plans with the kids, meal prep, cleaning rooms and changing bedding in stabilization rooms, assist in maintaining unit safety, follow direction from the Charge Nurse, etc.

Candidates must have a Bachelors degree in a mental health related field and at least 1 year of experience with youth in the mental health field. As a 24/7 program, the days/hours vary, with some full-time hours available.

Competitive pay starts at $17-18/hour depending on experience and benefits for full-time employees after the 90-day probation period.
