Multi-Tiered System of Support - Reading (MTSS-R) Coach Certified
2021-2022, 2022-2023, 2023-2024 School Years

JOB GOAL
MTSS-R and grade-level teams will be proficient in using data to identify students in need of
intervention, and to inform instructional practices. Grade 1 and 2 classroom teachers will learn about and
use effective, data-based and explicit instructional strategies to meet the instructional needs of all
students. Interventionists will implement Tier II intervention with fidelity to support students with the
greatest need.


QUALIFICATIONS
  • Current Arizona Elementary Teaching Certificate
  • Must hold a Reading Endorsement
  • Minimum of three (3) years of successful classroom teaching experience in a multicultural setting
  • Demonstrates proficiency in teaching early literacy evidenced by principals evaluations and student achievement
  • Demonstrates knowledge of AZCCRS and instructional materials for English Language Arts
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and works effectively in a professional learning community
  • Demonstrates knowledge of curriculum, instruction and assessment as they relate to each otherand influence student achievement
  • Demonstrates ability in working with diverse populations (ELL, Gifted, Special Education)
  • Holds high expectations for her/himself and colleagues, as well as students
  • Expertise in beginning reading instruction based on the science of reading
  • Experience implementing components of an MTSS framework
  • Experience with administration and interpretation of screening, diagnostic, and progress monitoring assessments, including working with associated inline data systems
  • Prior coaching experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Familiarity with Cartwright School District policies and practices, including the current reading program, Benchmark Advance
  • Adept at balancing and prioritizing professional duties before, during, and after school hours, aswell as planning and preparing for these duties
  • Demonstrated punctuality, preparedness, organization, and commitment
  • Knowledgeable about current and past research in content areas and other pedagogies relevant to the coaching role
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, the following:

For each school, the MTSS-R Coach will
  1. Identify MTSS-R team roles (i.e., team lead, note taker, data specialist, timekeeper)
  2. Facilitate MTSS-R team meetings using standard agendas
  3. Provide support to the MTSS-R team and instructional staff with analysis and use of student data to inform instructional decisions and practices
  4. Meet regularly with administration to review student assessment and MTSS-R implementation data and assess progress towards goals
  5. Provide technical assistance focused on effective Tier I instruction and Tier II intervention
  6. Provide individual support to teachers on instructional skill development through classroom visits, modeling, and feedback
  7. Provide individual support to interventionists on Tier II intervention through classroom visits, modeling, and feedback
  8. Assist with conducting implementation data collection in Tier I and Tier II
  9. Participate in classroom visits with technical assistance providers (from ECRI or CORE Partners)
  10. Serve as a liaison between school staff and technical assistance providers (from ECRI or CORE Partners)
Other Responsibilities:
To facilitate high-quality implementation of the MTSS-R model and a successful evaluation of its impact, the MTSS-R Coach will also serve as a liaison between the district and the AIR study team. In this role, the MTSS-R Coach is expected to
  1. Work in collaboration with trainers and expert coaches and consultants from the training providers
  2. Attend all training sessions provided to teachers and interventionists and school teams
  3. Attend group and individual coach meetings with the provider
  4. Maintain regular coaching logs and make available to the study team via web portal
  5. Use coaching management protocols for organizing the coaching process (weekly coaching plans, and implementation checklists).
KNOWLEGE AND SKILLS:
  • Knowledge of applicable Federal, state, county and city statutes, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of applicable Cartwright School District and departmental policies and procedures.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Positions in this class typically require: stooping, reaching, pulling, lifting, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
  • Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
