Job Description
Under the direct supervision of the Senior Director of Creative and Brand Strategy, who exclusively focuses on ASU Sun Devil Athletics, the multimedia developer will create a variety of communications for ASU’s Sun Devil Athletics that are aligned with the overall ASU brand strategy and creative direction.. This is a unique opportunity to engage in an area of design that aims to become best in class and serve as a university exemplar for digital and print advertising, social media graphics, web UX design and graphics and other communications touchpoints that appeal to sports fans, community members, students, alumni and thought leaders. This position will work in a fast-paced, highly-collaborative studio environment. We iterate quickly and responsively, making design experiments, testing them with audiences and scaling the best performing designs through establishing templates, libraries and creative standards. Our creative team is focused on growth, carving out time and support for ongoing learning and experimentation to inform our future creative decisions. May coordinate and lead the work of others, especially student workers.

Essential Duties
- Develop a high level of understanding of ASU brand standards and defined Sun Devil Athletics strategy to create a body of digital and print creative that reaches defined goals.
- Create templates and tools that other designers and communicators can use daily.
- Specializes in the design of digital and print advertising, marketing materials, posters, flyers, digital signage, stadium signage, social media images and designed emails that deliver on Key Performance Indicators for engagement and ticket sales.
- Designs fan guides, books and annual reports including selection of photography, creative use of typography, creation of graphs and tables and other aspects of multipage document design.
- Creates static graphics and animation designed to generate audience engagement..
- Prepares graphics for A/B testing and other processes that lead to insights about which creative will perform best with audiences.
- Integrates data insights from tests and market performance along with feedback from collaborators to drive increasingly effective and compelling creative that resonates with audiences.
- Coordinates with collaborators requesting design work; develops ideas, suggests new or modifies existing ideas; demonstrates creative techniques and advises other departmental personnel on techniques and methods to use.
- Coordinates production, proofs typesetting and printing for adherence to specifications; determines if quality standards have been met.
- Maintains productive communications through collaboration tools, maintains updates and routes proofs through project management system. Communicates with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure projects are delivered on time.
- Assesses and responds quickly to changing priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
- Uses a variety of design, retouching, animation and UX tools including Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, AfterEffects, XD and Figma.
- Remains up to date on technology developments within scope of expertise to provide ideas, guidance and recommendations. Mentors and cross-trains other team members in areas of knowledge.
- May assist in the creation and implementation of internal and external web pages and digital applications.
- May support ongoing logo system maintenance and brand asset management.
- May coordinate and lead the work of others, including mentoring and directing student creatives.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Graphic Arts, or a related area, AND, GRAPHICS (Proficiency):2 years experience in Adobe Photoshop, Acrobat, Illustrator, 2D imaging software and 2D animation software (Flash) and creating web graphics. VIDEO:(Proficiency):2 years experience in video/audio production. OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working with established brands and producing engaging creative while balancing the needs of brand standards.
- Evidence of a portfolio of work demonstrating strong typography, photography and information hierarchy decision-making skills with experience creating digital and print design work for still and motion applications.
- Experience in designing advertising materials including digital ads, email graphics, billboards, wrapped vehicles, banners and more.
- Experience making static and animated digital creative across paid and unpaid media in a mobile-first environment. Particular emphasis on the design of effective digital ads, designed emails and social media as part of an aligned multi-channel campaign.
- Experience in working with athletics or event design and an understanding of the dynamic, fast paced environment.
- Experience creating designs to be incorporated into website content.
- Experience editing photos, retouching images, color correction and resize for final output.
- Evidence of effective communication skills.
- Experience in effectively establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Experience in managing multiple projects, using design to advance progress by proposing solutions and showing collaborators what is possible.
- Experience in working with internal collaborators, stakeholders and team members in a nurturing, growth and learning-focused environment.
- Comfortable receiving feedback from multiple stakeholders and speaking to design best practices and making suggestions as needed.
- Experience in human-centered, insights-driven design process, applying a user-experience design approach to all projects.
- Experience in contributing ongoing improvements in workflow to keep the team running efficiently and effectively.
- Experience in aligning file management and process within team environment and shared working file systems including clear file naming conventions, maintenance of creative assets in working file systems and archive, using clearly-labeled non-destructive layers, established grids, swatches, stylesheets, actions and other tools for consistent creative execution across the brand so that others may open and reuse files in the future for similar projects.
Working Environment
- Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
- Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
- Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
- Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
- Drives University vehicle and/or cart to campus site.
