Position Summary

The University of New Mexico, College of Nursing invites application for a Nurse Educator to work with Health Science Albuquerque campus and Health Science Rio Rancho campus as well as clinical rotations. The Nurse Educator will support the development of future nurses at all levels in the pre-licensure program to ensure they have the knowledge and clinical skills they need to positively impact the community. Through collaboration with faculty, the Nurse Educator will ensure harmonious learning objectives are maintained, and that consistent and reliable assessment of student competency is performed. They will provide mentorship to develop students critical thinking and clinical judgement in the field to guide them into their own practice as confident and engaged professionals. This position may require travel by vehicle or air, locally, statewide and/or out of state.

Responsibilities include clinical training, evaluation, and supervision of nursing students at all levels in various healthcare settings. The Nurse Educator will collaborate with program directors, faculty, preceptors, clinical partners, and students to coordinate clinical experiences. Including orienting students and temporary part-time faculty to the programs course objectives and clinical outcomes in the pre-licensure program to facilitate clinical experiences outlined in the course syllabus. The Nurse Educator must stay current and maintain their credentialing and training requirements for assigned clinical facilities. The Nurse Educator will maintain professional relationships with clinical facilities personnel to ensure policies are being upheld. The incumbent will assist in developing student schedules and assignments in the clinical setting. Supporting instructional needs in the Lab, Simulation, and as guest speakers as needed. Facilitating the integration of learning experiences for nursing students. Complete formative and summative clinical evaluations collaborating with faculty when oversight or supervision is required and/or grading.

Conditions of Employment

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's degree in Nursing; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Certification/Licensure: State of New Mexico Licensed Registered Nurse or licensure pending as documented by temporary licensure OR current RN licensure from a state participating in the multi-state privilege to practice compact with New Mexico.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in nursing or graduate degree in nursing
  • Clinical preceptor experience
  • Recent clinical experience within the last 5 years
  • Current BLS certification
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Bilingual
