Job Description

A Family Nurse Practitioner employed by ASU Health Services is responsible for the diagnosis, treatment and counseling of university students, and on a limited basis for faculty and staff in an ambulatory care facility.  This position serves as an integral part of a health care team to provide primary care, acute care and basic women’s health care in an office setting on a major University Campus.


A practitioner in this position should have some flexibility to be able to serve our students on Tempe, Downtown, Polytechnic, and West campus locations as needed.


This position is to provide support during the pandemic.   Please note the position is temporary and may end if funding is not renewed, or if clinical needs decrease

Essential Duties

ASU Health Service clinicians:

Provide primary and urgent care for those utilizing health services

Participate in health education/academic activities as needed

Teach nurse practitioner students

Receive resources to participate in an active Continuing Medical Education program

Are not required to take call

Are responsible for taking a leadership role in cultivating, creating and ensuring student participation in ASU Spirit, Pride and Tradition while instilling institutional affiliation and college pride.


Minimum Qualifications

Associate or Bachelor’s degree with a major in Nursing from a State Board of Nursing approved school of nursing with satisfactory completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program AND currently licensed to practice nursing in the State of Arizona AND certified as a Nurse Practitioner by the State Board of Nursing.  Effective January 1, 2001, The State Board of Nursing requires a minimum qualification of a Master’s degree in a health-related area and after November 13,2005 minimum qualification of a Master’s degree in Nursing.  A registered Nurse Practitioner who is Board Certified before January 1, 2001 and in good standing with a current license to practice shall continue to meet the minimum qualifications.  Maintains a valid AZ driver’s license.


Desired Qualifications

Experience with Point and Click, or similar electronic health record

Experience in a primary care outpatient setting (1 year)

Experience with college or university healthcare

Experience and interest in women’s health


Working Environment

Highly effective communication in person and on telephone with patients and other members of the health care team.

Work with diverse populations, make appropriate diagnoses and prescribe accurate treatment, make critical decisions.

Work effectively as a member of a team approach to health care

Enter data accurately in the computer
