Overall Job Objective

What Success Looks Like In This Job

Supervise and coordinate daily operations. Supervise all aspects of healthful and safe food preparation, the food service budget, and all aspects of nutrition and food services related to Adams County Head Start.

Examples of Duties for Success

  • Responsible for the planning and development of nutritious menus.
  • Oversee the preparation of meals for children enrolled in the Head Start program in accordance with local Health Department and Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) Regulations.
  • Provide oversight of the kitchen area and directly supervise the cooks.
  • Ensure federal performance standards and state and local regulations are followed according to all operational needs in the Nutrition Department.
  • Assess and monitor services/systems provided to ACHS children, families, and staff to optimize services/systems.
  • Secure, track and monitor food allergy statements to individualize children's nutritional needs.
  • Lead professional group meetings, community meetings, staff meetings, and program events as requested.
  • Responsible for the development, tracking, and monitoring of nutrition area reports.
  • Responsible for conducting area audits and meal observation to meet CACFP funding and other state/local requirements.
  • Respond to and resolve inquiries and complaints.
  • Oversees proper working function of the food service equipment and ensures food safety and sanitation is maintained for all equipment in the department.
  • Track and maintain weekly production sheets of daily meals and snacks served and maintain files for three years for CACFP auditing purposes.
  • Maintain a monthly inventory of all food products and dry stock.
  • Order operating supplies and small wares as needed.
  • Receive and oversee proper storage of food and non-food supply orders according to proper food safety and sanitation regulations, as well as CACFP guidelines and regulations.
  • Attend all Staff meetings, general operational meetings, and training sessions as required.
  • Attend and participate in extracurricular Head Start events as requested, such as Parent Meetings, Cultural Literacy Fest, etc.
  • Facilitate and participate in the development of child/parent nutrition education programs.
  • Oversee catering of meetings related to ACHS.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.
Qualifications for Success

  • Health services and nutrition related activities of a commercial food service program.
  • Principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation.
  • Prepare accurate, clear, and concise reports.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
More Qualifications for Success

  • Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be
  • Experience: Two (2) years of high-volume, institutional-based cooking (i.e. schools, correctional facilities, health facilities, etc.)
  • Education and Training:
    • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
    • Associates Degree in Culinary Arts, Food Service, Nutrition, or a related field is preferred.
  • License or Certificate: Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado Driver's License.
  • Background Check: Must pass a criminal background check and Central Registry Check.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds on occasion.
    • Exposure to childhood diseases on a regular basis during the course of performing job duties.
    • Ability to pass a physical examination and TB test upon hire.
  • Other: Note: This is a 10-month position that receives stretch pay (salary paid over 12-months).
