    DEFINITION: Provides occupational therapy evaluation and services to qualified students, ages 3-22. Acts as a liaison between schools and agencies when medically related therapy is being provides out-of-district. The OT will work independently and must possess a high degree of motivation, self-direction, and accountability.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    TASKS:
    Participates in pre-referral process to generate modifications and accommodations to be implemented in regular education settings; obtains and relays information to and from parents and other medical personnel relating to a students physical status and needs; conducts screenings and evaluations relating to occupational therapy needs and documents results; provides input to diagnostic and placement team relating to a students OT evaluation and placement; develops therapy-related goals and objectives as part of the students Individual Education Plan (IEP); designs and implements activities to help a student meet the goals and objectives of his/her IEP.

    Instructs teachers, parents, and students regarding activities and equipment, in lieu of, or as follow-up to therapy; submits reports to the Medicaid Reimbursement Specialist for direct billing/reimbursement for services provided; completes documentation in accordance with Federal, State, and District requirements; provides lifting and handling instruction and training to educational personnel; manages budgets, resources, and supplies; performs other duties as assigned.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
    Knowledge of the field of occupational therapy.
    Knowledge of District and Department policies and procedures.
    Knowledge of IDEA rules and regulations.
    Special education requirements both Federal and State regulations.
    Skill in administering pediatric occupational therapy.
    Skill in conducting occupational therapy screenings and evaluations and interpreting the results.
    Skill in setting appropriate occupational therapy goals according to individual needs.
    Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed in an indoor environment. Work requires primarily sedentary work; however, frequent sitting, repetitive motion, vision to monitor, lifting up to 25 pounds, and assisting in moving or lifting children is or may be required.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Bachelors degree in Occupational Therapy.
    Experience working within the school setting.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: (Additional Compenstation will be considered if candidate meets preferred qualification)
    Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy or comparable
    Arizona Occupational Therapy License
    Experience working within the school setting

    Depending on the needs of the District, some incumbents in this class must be able to demonstrate fluency in both Spanish and English as a condition of employment.
