Position Summary

TheDepartment of Pediatrics at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Centeris seeking an experienced clinician in Critical Care atthe Associate Professor or Professor Level to serve as Division Chief forPediatric Critical Care. The Division Chief will oversee clinical service,patient care, research and scholarship, education and mentorship. The growth and development of faculty withinthe division is a priority for the department and offers tremendous opportunityfor the new division chief. The teamtakes in-house call, provides sedation services, and has a backup attendingscheduled Monday - Friday. Thisinnovative, academic leader will have program oversight responsibility for thePediatric Critical Care Division, including pediatric/neonatal ECMO and thePediatric Sedation Services, which include pediatric intensivists and pediatrichospitalists. They will also oversee and participate in ongoing research in theunit.

Theposition includes patient care responsibilities in a state of the art, 20 bedmulti-disciplinary Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, which averages 1000admissions per year. UNM is the stateslevel 1 trauma center, and is the main referral center for the entire state andsurrounding areas. The program includes a full complement of pediatric medicaland surgical subspecialties including pediatric surgery, pediatricneurosurgery, pediatric ENT, pediatric urology, pediatric orthopedic surgery andpediatric anesthesiology. Clinical services include pediatric sedation service(inpatient and outpatient), and the pediatric/neonatal ECMO program.

UNMserves a diverse patient population and is the only Level 1 Trauma center forthe State. The Department of Pediatrics and Pediatric Critical Care Divisionhave a long tradition of providing outstanding, comprehensive care to thechildren of New Mexico. The ACGME-accredited pediatric residency program at theUniversity of New Mexico School of Medicine trains 60 pediatric residents. Pediatric fellowships at the institutioninclude pediatric emergency medicine, pediatric hospitalist, pediatric childabuse and neonatology. UNM is a memberof the NIH CTSA Consortium, and is a leader in biomedical research for thestate.

Qualifications MinimumQualifications:
- Able to obtain medical licensure(s) in the state of New Mexico.
- BC/BE in Pediatric Critical Care.
- Ten years clinical experience.
- Experience with pediatric and neonatal ECMO.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with professional education, teaching, and research.
- Experience with care of the pediatric cardiothoracic surgery and trauma patient.
- Evidence of leadership roles in academic medicine.
- Experience mentoring of junior faculty.
- A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
