Position Summary |
The Division of Acute Care Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University is recruiting an Acute Care Surgeon. The University of New Mexico Hospital (UNMH) is the primary affiliate of the UNM School of Medicine and the state's only American College of Surgeons verified Level 1 Trauma center. The UNMH serves as the major referral for tertiary and quaternary care in New Mexico as well as parts of the surrounding states serving a population of 1.2 million people. UNMH has extensive experience and expertise in managing the most complex surgical patients and those who are critically injured. UNM Health Science Center (UNMHSC) is one of only 29 institutions nationally that has both an NIH (NCI) designated Cancer Center (Comprehensive Cancer Center) and a NIH sponsored Clinical Translational Science Center. UNMH has 629 beds for adult, pediatric and psychiatric care. There were 100,000 ED visits, over 2,800 trauma admissions (1,200 at the highest activation level, with >20% penetrating trauma), and 19,460 surgical procedures. This position is being recruited at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level. The UNM Division of Acute Care Surgery consists of six Acute Care surgeons covering all facets of Acute Care Surgery: Trauma, Emergency General Surgery, and Surgical Critical Care. We have a Surgical Critical Care fellowship with expertise in ECMO and ultrasound, with plans to expand to an Acute Care Surgery or Trauma Fellowship in the next year. Perhaps best known for the annual Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta and as the setting for AMC's hit show "Breaking Bad," Albuquerque, New Mexico, is a culturally rich and naturally beautiful metropolitan area. Sitting at the crossroads of New Mexico's major highways (Interstates 40 and 25). New Mexico is the home of two national laboratories, Sandia and Los Alamos, and Kirtland Air Force Base houses the Air Force Research Laboratory, Phillips site, and the Santa Fe Institute focuses on cutting edge research. Year-round good weather and easy access to the outdoors (the Sandia mountain wilderness is 20 minutes from UNM) make Albuquerque an incredible area for outdoor enthusiasts. |
