Operations Supervisor

Purpose Statement

The job of Operations Supervisor is done for the purpose/s of under the direction of the Director of Maintenance and Operations, supervises, plans and organizes the schedules of the Grounds Staff, or Unit Managers, Custodians, and Cleaners; performing minor maintenance including all emergency repairs; and trains and evaluates the performance of assigned personnel.

This job reports to Director of Maintenance & Operations

Essential Functions

Communicates with administrators, personnel and outside organizations for the purpose of coordinating activities, resolving issues and conflicts and exchanging information.

Coordinates day to day of the Grounds or Custodial staff for the purpose of ensuring facilities are maintained in a sanitary, safe and attractive environment.

Inspects buildings and facilities (all sites) for the purpose of ensuring that sites are suitable for safe operations, maintained in an attractive and clean condition, and/or identifying necessary repairs due to vandalism, equipment breakage, weather conditions, etc.

Monitors Grounds or Custodial budget and related activity for the purpose of ensuring that allocations are accurate and expenses are within budget limits and/or fiscal practices are followed.

Oversees assigned Grounds or Custodial programs and/or projects for the purpose of ensuring the department standards are met in a safe and efficient manner in compliance with state, federal and district requirements.

Participates in service training and new product training (e.g. blood borne pathogens, cleaning solvents, first aid, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and receiving information on new and/or improved procedures.

Prepares a variety of reports, record and/or files related to assigned activities and personnel (e.g. staff schedules, safety inspections, requisitions, work orders, evaluations, timesheets, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and/or conveying information.

Recommends long-term and short-term plans, departmental policies, procedures and/or actions for the purpose of providing direction for meeting the district's goals and objectives.

Responds to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (e.g. facility dam age, alarm s, graffiti, unauthorized individual, etc.) for the purpose of taking appropriate action to resolve immediate safety issues and maintaining a functioning educational environment.

Supports the Director of Maintenance and Operations for the purpose of providing assistance with

their administrative functions.

Supervises assigned Custodial staff (e.g. coordinates schedules, providing training, evaluating, etc.) for the purposes of ensuring that the department functions in a safe and efficient manner or supervises Grounds staff and assigned district-wide weed and pest control programs for the purposes of ensuring the department standards are met in a safe and efficient manner in compliance with state, federal, and district requirements.

Other Functions

Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: applying pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws; operating equipment used in industrial cleaning; operating standard office equipment including pertinent software applications; handling hazardous materials; planning and managing projects; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.

KNOW LEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: maintenance/operations programs, state and federal requirements regarding maintenance at school sites; and codes, regulations & laws related to the job functions.

ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a variety of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of processes. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize a variety of types of job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; providing direction and leadership; setting priorities; working as part of a team; working with frequent interruptions; and adapting to changing priorities.

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; managing a department; directing the use of budgeted funds within a work unit. Utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to have some impact on the organization's services.

Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, frequent climbing and balancing, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 50% sitting, 30% walking, and 20% standing. The job is performed under minim al temperature variations and in a generally hazard free environment.

High school diploma or equivalent.

Required Testing: Grounds Certificates and Licenses

Is a Qualified Applicator with Licensure in Arizona for: a. Industrial & Institutional (Categories 1 & 3) b. Ornamental & Turf (Note: Must be able to serve as Qualifying Party for the School District. Licensure must be maintained throughout term of employment while in this position with the District.)
