NATURE OF WORK
Under the direction of the Recreation Program Superintendent is responsible for all programs/activities, maintenance, supervision of lifeguards, safety and money handling at the Jack Florance Pool.

Availability of work may be weather dependent. A minimum of 25 hours per week including mornings, nights, holidays and weekends is expected.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Responsible for overseeing the operations, supervision, administration, instruction and direction of the Jack Florance Pool.
  2. Perform and supervise every aspect of the aquatics facility operation, including developing and executing programs of water-related activities, monitoring and regulating pool chemistry and performing routine maintenance.
  3. Plan and communicate employee schedules.
  4. Conduct daily maintenance inspections of facility; Ensure facility cleanness and security.
  5. Responsible for opening and closing of the facility.
  6. Consistently promote a positive, professional image at all times and provide consistent high-quality customer service.
  7. Exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance, including but not limited to, governmental and public relations; legal and regulatory compliance; and supervising the aquatics facility.
  8. Must attend monthly in-service trainings, fitness swims and bi-weekly skill checks
  9. Direct, monitor and evaluate the work performance of lifeguards and cashiers.
  10. Responsible for the health, safety and rescue of all patrons in and around the pool at all times of operation.
  11. Oversee chlorine residual water tests and with records and charts of water tests and records of accidents and adds chemicals to pool water as directed.
  12. Demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge of, and comply with, the facility rules, policies and procedures, and consistently and appropriately enforce them.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILIITES
  • Skilled in the management of an aquatic facility.
  • Thorough knowledge of aquatics operations, including the principles and techniques of planning, organizing and coordinating pool operations to include program set-up and work schedules.
  • Knowledge of and ability to perform lifeguarding, first aid, artificial respiration and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
  • Knowledge of pool facility regulation.
  • Ability to supervise employees and coordinate and evaluate the work of subordinate staff.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in written form.
  • Ability to organize recreational programs/activities and resources associated with such programs/activities.
  • Ability to conduct and analyze tests relating to pool water conditions.
  • Ability to perform first aid, artificial respiration and cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with the general public as well as co-workers.
  • Ability to manage money accurately.
  • Ability to maintain equipment and merchandise inventory.
  • Ability to remain calm and work in emergency situations.

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMES OF WORK

  1. Prepare and distribute facility information to the public in order to promote programs, classes or other activities.
  2. Supervise maintenance and cleaning of facility.
  3. Maintain financial records and reports of pool and program attendance; submit required revenue, expense and inventory reports.
  4. Monitor aquatic equipment, supply and material quantities and levels.
  5. Assist in the formation of facility policies.
  6. Maintain records of proper cleaning, inspections and water chemistry.
  7. Handles patron complaints.
  8. Respond to all emergency situations.
  9. Performs other related duties as required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
  • The primary duties of this position are performed in an outdoor environment and include working in adverse weather conditions with exposure to hazardous chemicals.
  • Sufficient hearing ability, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal instructions and emergency signals and to communicate with other employees and the general public.
  • Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written work instructions.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to climb in and out of pools, swim, provide water rescue of patrons and administer CPR.
  • Sufficient strength to lift and carry objects over fifty (50) pounds for varying distances.
  • Sufficient mobility, flexibility, stamina and balance to perform activities that require bending, stooping, kneeling, stretching, sitting and standing and other physical exertions. Work includes multi limb coordination in climbing, swimming, and lifting.
  • Ability to perform work that requires focused attention either sitting or standing for extended periods of time and the ability to withstand exposure to variable weather conditions.
Training, Experience, and Qualifications

  1. High school diploma.
  2. Eighteen years of age or older.
  3. First Aid, CPR, and Lifeguarding Certifications required and must be maintained over course of employment.
  4. Water Safety Instructor (WSI) and Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certifications preferred.
  5. Four years experience as a lifeguard and two years experience as a Water Safety Instructor (WSI) preferred.
  6. Honest, dependable, and trustworthy and pass background check.
