This is an expert level coding position that codes and abstracts outpatient records for data retrieval, analysis, reimbursement and research and completes charge capture, as applicable. Assists coding and hospital staff with coding and billing related follow up, issues and questions. Works directly with Coding School Trainers with outpatient training as needed. Assist manager/director with coding education, audits, denials/disputes, claim edits and/or CHA data submission.

Under direct supervision of the Outpatient Coding Manager, directs the Coding Service Center outpatient coding operations to include; personnel management, training and education, productivity, work assignments, quality reviews, and report management; Facilitates and promotes standardization of coding operations across Centura and in alignment with the system. Manages the DNB and coding compliance to ensure alignment and support of achieving corporate/service center and hospital financial goals. Demonstrates knowledge of the Claim edits and works closely with other departments within Revenue Management. Works with the Outpatient Coding Service Center team to improve accuracy, integrity and quality of patient data, to ensure minimal variation in coding practices. Assists with Claim edits, CHA edits and coding production, as needed. Assists other areas within the Coding Service Center when needed.

What You Bring/Job Requirements

In addition to bringing your whole self to the workplace each day, qualified candidates will need the following:

  • Minimum of 4 years of outpatient coding experience in an acute care setting
  • Must demonstrate competency of outpatient and observation coding guidelines as well as other outpatient coding guidelines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows applications (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Charge capture experience, preferred
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of Coding Clinic Guidelines, and advanced technical knowledge with coding competency in ICD-10 CM, CPT, HCPCS and Nosology
  • Advance knowledge of disease management, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, pharmacology and coding systems (i.e. 3M)
  • High School Diploma or GED, required.
  • Associate's degree, preferred.
  • Current AHIMA credentials (i.e. RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P) or AAPC credential (COC, CIC, CPC-H, CPC) required and maintained

Physical Requirements - Sedentary Work - prolonged periods of sitting and exert/lift up to 10 lbs. force occasionally
