    Kohl Elementary
    Position - this opening is for an intensive paraeducator. The applicant will support the educational and language needs of students in a center-based special education program. In addition, the applicant will be responsible for facilitating communication (written and oral) between the school and home with families for whom Spanish is the first language.
    Hours - The applicant will need to be available from 12:30-2:30 p.m. on T, W, and Th for on site work at Kohl Elementary. At this time, the balance of weekly hours will be spent providing a combination of in-person and remote support for students and their families. This may include making and receiving calls to families, communicating with the teacher around academic programming, and providing translation services during and outside of normal school hours.
    Language Proficiency - Due to the nature of this position, the applicant must be able to communicate (speak, read, and write) at the proficiency level of one for whom Spanish is their first language.

    Summary:
    Assists students with intensive needs in both the regular and special education classrooms. This includes behavioral, academic, health and other types of supports.

    Responsibilities:
    -Provide support to special education students in the regular and special education classrooms.
    -Mentor, support and assist students with a variety of abilities and disabilities to become competent, independent adults.
    -Assist students and case manager/teachers on field trips.
    -Assist with administering tests or assessments.
    -Assist case manager/teacher with paperwork and documentation of progress on goals and plans.
    -Maintain student confidentiality, following state regulations and district protocols around confidentiality.
    -Collaborate with special education teacher/case manager on implementation of individual student plans.
    -Attend required professional development, including CPI, CPR and First Aid. Maintain certification in these areas.
    -Follow behavior support plans, both proactive supports and crisis management, including appropriate use of CPI and maintaining student confidentiality.
    -When requested, attend IEP annual or tri-annual meetings as well as staff meetings.

    Qualifications:
    Required:
    -High School Diploma or equivalent
    -Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting of up to 50 pounds
    -Complete and submitted BVSD online application
    -Communicate (read, write, and speak) in English
    -CPI, CPR, and First Aid certifications within 30 days after hire
    -Bilingual/Biliterate Spanish/English (must pass BVSD assessment)

    Preferred:
    -Experience working with children
    -Positive communication, interaction and work experience with diverse people

    Salary Information:
    -Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.
