Position Summary:

The Paralegal will provide legal support for the activities of the Legal Department by preparing documents, performing research, creating reports, managing projects, responding to requests for information, tracking litigation, expenses, licensing and related matters, managing vendors, compliance tracking and reporting, preparing communications, and general administrative support such as expense reporting and invoice processing.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide general legal support to the Company. Handle sensitive and confidential business matters and information with discretion. Anticipate problems, critical issues, and opportunities as they arise and act accordingly.

  • Handle incoming service of process and incidents, including research and response.

  • Manages the reporting process and handling of property-related incidents and personal injury claims made against the Company and its affiliates

  • Manages complaints received from real estate commissions, attorney general, department of justice and other government agencies

  • Reviews escalated property management matters, researches, and builds cases, and advises market teams on risk mitigation, policy compliance, and customer retention strategies

  • Report and manage insurance claims by third parties and the Company; communicate with carriers and third parties regarding status, to completion

  • Assists with licensing compliance and entity maintenance including preparation of documents and filings.

Qualifications:

  • Associates or Bachelors Degree

  • Must have Paralegal Certification

  • 5+ years experience working in a law firm environment

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills with a working knowledge of common legal, HR and business concepts

  • High quality communication skills to liaise verbally and in writing with management, vendors, visitors, residents, legal counsel, administrative agencies, and other employees and team members

  • Able to self-manage in a fast-paced environment within time and resource constraints

  • Proven problem solving, conceptual thinking and analytical abilities.

  • Exceptional project management skills to effectively manage multiple priorities.

  • Ability to make calculated decisions quickly.

  • Ability to work in a discreet manner, maintaining confidentiality.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
