JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision provides excellent customer services, on-site patrols and promotes adherence to regulations, and ordinances relating to park usage by patrolling park areas, properties, and buildings. Other duties involve providing park users/patrons with education and front-line public relations by developing and conducting outdoor recreation and natural resource educational programs. A Park Ranger is also responsible for assisting with written reports as needed, and maintaining accurate daily records and logs. Additionally, Park Rangers are responsible for developing, promoting, and improving services and programs for park users/patrons, including safe park use, and proper use of natural resources, as well as performing minor maintenance.

TYPICAL CLASSIFICATION ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Greet and meet customers in a polite and professional manner.
- Monitor and patrol parks to ensure compliance with rules and regulations to protect park visitors, property and natural/cultural resources.
- Perform conservation duties related to programs and projects.
- Provide traffic and parking control.
- Coordinate and lead volunteers in Park and Trail programs.
- General park operation maintenance, including trash removal.
- Perform basic trail maintenance and trail conditions assessments.
- Inspect park structures, features and equipment to ensure they meet safety requirements.
- Collect Park and Trail fees for provided services.
- Explain and interpret park features for visitors.
- Facilitate resource protection at the direction of management.
- Issue citations for violations of Park rules and regulations, and assist law enforcement when necessary.
- Assist and work with other agencies as duties require.
- Operate various equipment and hand tools to assist in Park and Trail maintenance.
- Prepare, compile and produce reports as necessary for management.
- May provide or render first aid.
- Promotes and adheres to the workplace values of accountability, commitment, and teamwork to help enrich lives beyond expectation.
- Maintain absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, customer records and restricted County information.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
- Two (2) years of undergraduate course work in outdoor recreation, environment, parks and recreation, natural resources or related field.
- One (1) year of experience in a position requiring direct, in person contact with the general public as a primary duty of the job.
- Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience may substitute for the minimum requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Parks and Recreation, Natural Resources Management, Environmental or Wildlife Management or related filed.
- Valid Drivers License with Arizona Drivers License within 30 days of hire.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of public relations program planning, development and management.
- Knowledge of Pinal County geographical area and points of interest.
- Knowledge of park permit and other fee requirements.
- Knowledge of building and construction practices.
- Knowledge of procedures and techniques used in park resource interpretation and preservation.
- Knowledge of principles and techniques of public relations and land management.
- Knowledge of principles and techniques of wildlife management.
- Knowledge of basic first aid.
- Skill in operating equipment in park maintenance practices.
- Skill in compiling information for reports.
- Skill in implementing park program directives.
- Ability to deliver high level customer service during performance of essential duties.
- Ability to supervise and train volunteers.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work requires independent body mobility to stand, move over uneven terrain, bend, and sit for prolonged periods of time and drive a vehicle. Manual dexterity to reach, and grasp; manual dexterity to hand write or use computer keyboard; vision sufficient to see/read; hear and speak to communicate with customers in person and over the phone.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed outside in an environment and exposure to inclement weather conditions, extreme temperatures, and natural terrain. Work may include night, weekend and/or holiday shifts.
