The City of Aurora is hiring a Parking Control Officer who is responsible for investigating, monitoring, and enforcing local and state parking laws, ordinances, codes, and policies to ensure the well-being of the public.

The City of Aurora will conduct ongoing screenings of applications on a first come-first serve basis; as soon as we determine to have a qualified pool of applicants, this position may close quickly and without notice.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Patrolling public city streets and authorized off-street parking facilities to ensure compliance and enforce parking regulations
  • Issues citations or warnings to violating vehicles using automated hand-held devices
  • Investigates parking activities and documents findings via on-board computer
  • Provides customer service by answering questions regarding parking policies and responds to citizen inquiries
  • Impound, immobilize, tow, or relocate violating vehicles as directed
  • Prepares accurate and complete reports, forms, and documents
  • Assist in the collection and security of parking revenues and fees
  • Assists with activities related to event parking; assists maintenance staff with activities related to parking facility repair, cleaning, and upkeep
  • Assists office staff with customer service support
  • Testifies under oath in municipal and county court as a witness for the city
  • May perform other duties as assigned
  • This position requires the ability to work alone and therefore officers must exercise proper judgment, tact, and diplomacy in dealing with the public
Please note, Parking Control Officers are not sworn police officers and have no arresting authority.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • High School diploma or GED
Experience:
  • At least 2 years of customer service and parking regulation enforcement experience

Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of parking facilities compliance standards and parking regulation rules

Abilities:
  • Ability to establish and maintain highly effective working relationships with employees and citizens
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Prioritize, coordinate, and make work assignments
  • Fulfill goals and objectives

Skills:
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills

Licenses, Certificates Or Equipment Required:
  • Colorado Driver's License required with a good driving history
WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Demands:

  • Light physical work requiring the ability to lift a maximum of 30 pounds with or without assistance
  • Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate office equipment
  • Vision to read and interpret reports and other written material
  • Frequent speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens

Work Environment:
  • Works primarily outdoors in all weather conditions with exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and chemicals. Some work may be performed in confined spaces.
Equipment Used:
  • Operates a motor vehicle
  • Frequently uses standard office equipment
This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g., vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment

Essential Personnel: When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.
