Job Description

Overall Job Objective

Summary

Under general supervision, performs a variety of routine strenuous skilled or semi-skilled duties to maintain, and repair parks, grounds and recreation facilities

Minimum Qualifications

Experience equivalent to one-year full time general grounds maintenance or closely related work. Must possess a valid Arizona drivers license and be able to meet the Communitys insurance carrier requirements. Must complete and pass a background check.

Examples of Duties

  • Beautifies park grounds by keeping lawns green and litter free.
  • Establishes and maintains positive effective working relationships with other staff and the public.
  • Mows grass, trims plants/shrubs, and prunes bushes and trees, including operating equipment such as riding lawn mowers, tractor gang mowers, weed-eaters, chain saws, and trucks.
  • Schedules & performs minor maintenance and repairs to equipment & machinery.
  • Maintains, repairs, and monitors community pool.
  • Assists at special events, including setting up, cleaning up, preparing grounds, etc.
  • Serves as Parks Rangers as needed (enforce park rules & regulations).
  • Performs a variety of strenuous manual labor associated with landscape installation/maintenance and picking up/hauling trash, debris, and other waste from parks & recreational facility areas.
  • Maintains & repairs irrigation system (the Calsense and Rainbird System)
  • Troubleshoots & diagnoses irrigation related problems (timers, sprinkler heads/reclaim sprinkler heads, & lines)
  • Performs minor facility maintenance, including replacing light bulbs, AC filters, fixing minor leaks, etc.
  • Maintains, inspects & repairs indoor & outdoor athletic fields (turf management) & courts
  • Maintains, inspects, & repairs playground equipment; may perform safety checks on playground
  • Opens & secures public facilities as warranted (restrooms, concession stand, etc)
  • Operates and/or drives dump truck, backhoe, loader, & other equipment (including hand & power tools)
  • Maintains Recreational facility grounds landscape
  • Attends training as needed.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned to include cross training.
Other Requirements

  • Knowledge of the practices and techniques of landscape/grounds maintenance.
  • Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and repair of landscape/grounds maintenance equipment.
  • Knowledge of general grounds keeping and landscaping principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of irrigation systems. Calsense System knowledge preferred.
  • Knowledge of the practices & techniques of pool maintenance
  • Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and repair of playground equipment
  • Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and repair of pool equipment
  • Knowledge of basic computer use for email communication, project management and inventory.
  • Ability in operating a variety of light/heavy equipment & hand/power tools.
  • Ability to operate, install, & troubleshoot/repair irrigation systems & controllers
  • Ability to stand for one to three continuous hours per day while performing a variety of manual labor such as raking leaves/debris, shoveling in field mix, gravel, or dirt, etc
  • Must be willing to work some weekends, evenings, holidays & all Department sponsored events on an as needed basis.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions
  • Skill in understanding and following written and verbal instructions.
