POSITION PURPOSE:
Under the general direction of their supervisor, the Registration Representative captures and verifies all the information necessary for proper and clean registration of outpatient services. Reviews and audits all registered accounts on a daily basis to ensure sufficient financial data and patient demographics was gathered to expedite processing for prompt payment of claims or self pay accounts. The Registration Representative will verify insurance and obtain and/or assist in obtaining any prior authorizations needed to authorize services and process prompt payment of claims. Will serve as a backup to the Customer Service Front Desk position. The Registration Representative must be able to communicate effectively and pleasantly both over the phone and in person.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
The Registration Representative position requires the incumbent possess the minimum of a high school diploma and two to three years of experience in computerized hospital patient accounts is preferred. This individual should be able to operate such general office machines as a typewriter, computer, adding machine by touch, photocopier, FAX and multi-line switchboard phone system. This position must present a professional appearance, deal courteously and respectfully with patients, be able to learn and follow established departmental policies, be able to perform work with attention to detail, be able to maintain accurate records and be able to contribute to a pleasant, positive working environment.

ENVIRONMENT:
The South Peninsula Hospital is a combined 22 bed Acute Care Critical Access Hospital and 28 bed Long Term Care facility located at the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula in South-Central Alaska. The Patient Financial Services Department provides reception, registration, billing, collections and receipting functions for the hospital and Long Term Care. The working environment is generally pleasant, clean and well maintained. The position requires a moderate amount of mobility. The ability to reason, speak and have basic manual dexterity is essential. Physical demands are moderate and may include sitting, walking, stooping and occasional lifting. Psychological demands can be very strenuous. Most work is performed inside and the work is generally of a positive nature
