Position Description

This position is responsible for assuring smooth operation of the clinic patient flow. Employees serve as primary contacts for patients and are responsible for scheduling appointments, preparing necessary paperwork before the patient visits, receiving patients, and maintaining records. In addition, this position is responsible for processing charges for clinic services, filing insurance claims, responding to requests for information from patients and insurance companies and maintaining related information for the department.

Major/Essential Functions
-Responsible for patient referrals under the Department of Neurology. Duties include managing and obtaining preauthorizations and work with associated faculty & insurance companies towards patient scheduling.

- Schedule patients appointments accordingly by Department guidelines.

-Answers main telephone lines, responds to telephone inquires from patients, staff, and general public. Assist the front desk receptionist with patient traffic and inquires.

- Covers front desk Patient Services Specialist.

-Responsible for coordinating appointments under the Epilepsy Grant. Responsibility to include compiling required documents for eligibility under the grant.

Position Specific: Excellent interpersonal skills. The ability to read and comprehend instructions and write messages. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to understand and follow instructions,. Display knowledge of personal computers to include use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Well-organized and ability to manage multiple duties and ability to use general office machines.

Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual: English/ Spanish. Experience working in a Neurology Clinic or Ambulatory Clinic setting at least 1 year. Knowledge of insurance authorization process.
