Payroll Tax Accountant

Aleut Federal is looking for a Payroll Tax Accountant to join our team! We are a fast growing government contractor headquartered in Reston, VA. The preference is for this role to sit in our office in Colorado Springs, CO but we are open to flexibility for the right candidate.

Job Summary

• Prepares payroll tax deposits and returns for multi-state payrolls.
• Prepares reports and payments for employer and employee paid benefit costs such as union dues, pension, health insurance, flexible spending and workers compensation.
• Backup support on payroll including processing of timecards, maintaining payroll control records, calculating and verifying the accuracy of payroll data

Essential Job Functions

• Prepares payroll tax deposits and returns for multi-state payrolls.
• Prepares reports and payments for employer and employee paid benefit costs such as union dues, pension, health insurance, flexible spending and workers compensation.
• Maintains schedule of tax filings by state and entity to ensure timely payments.
• Partners with other Corporate staff on registrations for new locations
•  Backup for payroll processing when primary person is on leave.
• Interprets company policies and government regulations in connection with payroll and tax procedures.
• Reviews and validates the accuracy of flow of payroll tax postings to the general ledger and supports reconciliation of payroll accounts. 
• Meets month end close deadlines.
• Supports DCAA requirements and audits. 
• Supports all internal and external audits. 
• Provides ad hoc management reports and analysis. 
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree with five years’ experience in multi-state payroll department is required. Payroll certification or extensive payroll experience may be acceptable in lieu of Bachelor’s Degree.
• Deltek Costpoint experience required.
• Basic computer skills, mathematical skills and the ability to read and write English.,
• Prior experience working with government contracts preferred.
• Prior experience with certified Davis Bacon and Service Contract Act payrolls preferred. 
• Prior experience with union payrolls preferred.
