DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The Payroll Technician performs analytical, detail-oriented work regarding the payroll functions, and assists the
Payroll Manager in various projects for the Gila River Indian Community. The primary responsibility of thisposition is: review and approval of employee electronic timesheets for accuracy, completeness and authority;ensure the correct employee hours and rates are applied in the payroll process; address employee questionsregarding their hours, pay, and leave accruals; ensure all updates are appropriately made for employee/employer
deductions; and conduct annual/sick leave accrual audits for sick donations and final payment after employee isterminated.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Effectively provide quality and professional customer service to employees regarding work/leave hours,
compensation, and payroll deductions through email, telephone, and in-person.Assist with new hire setup and updates in the timekeeping system; Train new employees and supervisors on
processing hours and leave requests in the timekeeping system.Review employee electronic timesheets in a timely manner and ensure data is complete and accurate;
Reconcile timekeeping errors and communicate with supervisors; Complete approvals by deadline for transfer
of hours to the payroll system.Accurately process payroll forms submitted by employees for federal and state taxes; properly setup new
and/or update direct deposit bank accounts, and volunteer deductions; maintain an accurate log of the
employee forms processed in the payroll database.Evaluate and process respective payment(s) based on Employee Action Notices from Human Resources and
Benefits Office, which includes retroactive payments, annual leave payout, and approved donated sick hours;
Ensure payments are made in a timely manner on the bi-weekly or off-cycle payroll submission.Research and analyze various payroll situations as they arise.Conduct audits for sick and annual leave balances from last hire date for terminated employees; Ensure
accurate and timely final payment for hours worked and annual leave balance.Appropriately process and add deductions for support orders, tax levies, and garnishments to generate
payments to third party recipients.
0 Assist in printing, sorting, and verifying paychecks before disbursements.

- Responsible for enforcing compliance with the Gila River Indian Community personnel policies and
procedures as they pertain to payroll and the Gila River Indian Community.
0 Perform other related duties as assigned.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:Knowledge of the English language, spelling, and arithmetic skills.General knowledge of payroll procedures and payroll/timekeeping software.Knowledge of 10-key and operation of standard office equipment.Knowledge of payroll laws, which pertain to Gila River Indian Community.Ability to follow up and complete projects in a timely manner.Ability to exhibit good organizational, interpersonal, writing and communications skills to interpret reports
and prioritize tasks.Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare reports.Ability to maintain a dependable work attendance record with extremely infrequent absences and/or lateness.
Ability to work at times in a stressful, time-sensitive environment.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, Community Officials
and the general public.

High School diploma or GED and two (2) years experience in payroll processing, bookkeeping, or accounting.Twenty-four (24) college course credits from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Business
