COVID VACCINATION NOTICE: Under the COVID-19 mandate issued by the Denver Department of Public Health and Environment on August 2, 2021, current MHCD personnel must be fully vaccinated, or be approved for exemption, no later than September 30, 2021. "Fully vaccinated" means two weeks (14 days) after receiving the final dose of vaccine. The "final dose" is the second dose of a two-dose vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) or the single dose of a one dose vaccine (J&J).

STARTING SALARY: $15.39/hr. - $18.48/hr.

POSITION SUMMARY: Peer Specialists strive to help people reach their own goals and live healthy lives by supporting them in identifying strengths and abilities followed by assisting them in articulating, developing, and creating personal goals for recovery through one-to-one and group sessions. Peer Specialists support the therapeutic milieu and assist consumers in accessing therapeutic and ancillary services. Peer Specialists may work in one of the following programs/teams:

  • Site Based Program
  • Community Based Program
  • Social Impact Bond Team
  • Rental Assistance Program

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS FOR RENTAL ASSISTANT PROGRAM

  • Helps the people we serve find and maintain housing utilizing the HUD Section 8 certificates and vouchers system
  • Assures the people we serve and landlords meet HUD housing guidelines.
  • Assists consumers in finding alternative housing, as needed.
  • Requires transporting persons served in a personal vehicle to and from a variety of housing locations.
  • Meet with landlords and tenants regularly to maintain good working relationships.
  • Provide housing navigation services to persons served within MHCDs Rental Assistance Program and those who have vouchers outside of MHCDs Rental Assistance Program.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Orient persons to program and available services.
  • Report clinical concerns and high-risk persons and safety issues as they occur to other program staff and supervisor at staff report times. Follow clinical direction.
  • Meet with persons to discuss disposition plans, personal safety plans and create an informal opportunity for persons to address the fears and concerns related to trauma and crisis.
  • Work with program staff to develop and maintain resource directory available to persons.
  • Assist in developing and facilitating Skills Groups.
  • Assist persons in obtaining services that suit the individuals recovery needs including community and natural supports in addition to organizational supports.
  • Assist in arranging and providing transportation for appointments and services.
  • Promote collaboration and sharing of resources for persons in the community: food, clothing, transportation, recreation, medical, insurances, housing, shelters and employment, as appropriate.
  • Use ongoing individual and group sessions that build on identified strengths and teach people problem-solving techniques, how to identify and overcome fears and combat negative self-talk/self-stigma.
  • Assist program staff in maintaining accurate documentation
  • Attend program team meetings and supervision as scheduled.
  • Attend training as identified.

SITE BASED, COMMUNITY BASED, & SOCIAL IMPACT BOND POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: High School diploma or equivalent.

Certifications: Has upon hire a Colorado Peer and Family Specialist Certification.

EXPERIENCE: Personal lived experience working toward recovery with the individuals own serious mental health issue and a min. 1 year working experience in the mental health field

DRIVING: Valid drivers license preferred and must maintain a good driving record while employed.

RENTAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: High School diploma or equivalent.

Certifications:

  • Must have upon hire or obtain within 6 months of hire a Colorado Peer and Family Specialist Certification.
  • Registered and proficient in Hud Enterprise Income Verification (EIV) web based computer system (may be obtained on the job).
  • Certified to perform HUD Housing Quality Standards inspections (may be obtained on the job).
  • Upon 2 years of experience using the Colorado Division of Housing (DOH) Elite Super User computer system, employee base salary shall be increased by $1 per hour (may be obtained on the job).

EXPERIENCE: Personal lived experience in housing instability and a preference of 1 year working experience in the mental health field and/or the housing field.

DRIVING: Valid drivers license preferred and must maintain a good driving record while employed.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Knowledge or ability to learn and practice trauma informed principles and practices.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to operate a computer

  • Consistent and reliable attendance Supervisory
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office

ADDITIONAL SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES FOR RENTAL ASSISTANT PROGRAM

  • Working knowledge of Section 8 HCV and other federal and state housing programs strongly preferred, including a working knowledge of HUD regulations, policies and procedures

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None

PHYSICAL REQIUREMENTS: Ability to sit, stand, bend and reach, drive, operate standard office equipment such as phone, computer, facsimile, copier/printer, and other business machines. Household appliances and equipment. Occasional lifting up to 40 lbs.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work mornings, afternoons, and early evenings. May be required to attend meetings at a variety of locations. May be required to transport people with serve in personal vehicle. Meets the requirements of applicable federal, state and organizational background checks
