Through our Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU), hospital diversion program (New Vistas) and Jefferson Hills Academy, we use some of the most current practices, interventions and protocols to address the complex needs of vulnerable youth and their families.

Phlebotomist Position Purpose:

To provide basic healthcare services and support medical team in care of children/youth admitted to Jefferson Hills New Vistas Crisis Stabilization Unit and/or Jefferson Hills Academy. Responsibilities include:

  • Perform blood collections by venipuncture and capillary techniques for children
  • Collect specimens for drug screens, alcohol/drug tests etc.
  • Perform data entry of patient information in an accurate and timely manner
  • Prepare all collected specimens for testing and analysis
  • Maintain patient and specimen information logs
  • Maintains a culturally and socioeconomically sensitive environment for children/youth.
  • Successfully completes all required trainings in a timely manner.
  • Follows and enforces all Jefferson Hills Policies and Procedures, including but not limited to confidentiality, sexual harassment/harassment, dual relationships, physical and sexual abuse reporting, Corporate Compliance and Code of Ethics.
  • Must be willing and able to perform physical restraints with children/youth using required CPI techniques

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certified as a Phlebotomy Technician by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
  • Previous experience as a phlebotomist, with youth/children
  • Strong communication skills; both written and verbal
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment
  • Comfortable working under minimal supervision
  • Reliable transportation and clean driving record if applicable
  • Flexibility to work overtime as needed
