Job Description

Our skilled nursing facility is seeking a full time Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) to join our in-house therapy team to help residents with their rehabilitation program as outlined by the licensed physical therapist. The ideal candidate can work effectively under the supervision of a primary physical therapist to carry out individualized resident care plans for people with chronic conditions or recovering from an injury or surgery. For this position, we need a team player that is self-motivated, willing to work with people of all ages and deliver consistent, high-quality resident care.

Job Summary
Administer the treatment program outlined by the licensed physical therapist, participate on the interdisciplinary rehabilitation team in a post-acute rehabilitation environment, and contribute to all group programs provided by the rehabilitation department. Ensures compliance with all state and federal regulations. Reviewing physical therapist interpretations of resident evaluations and test results; interviewing residents; performing physical examinations; recommending options and courses of action to physical therapists; giving normal growth and development information; promoting wellness and health maintenance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assesses physical therapy resident health by reviewing physical therapist interpretations of resident evaluations and test results; interviewing residents; performing physical examinations; identifying resident care issues; obtaining, updating, and studying therapy histories; recommending options and courses of action to physical therapists.
  • Performs physical therapy procedures by implementing resident treatment plans; administering manual exercises; instructing, encouraging, and assisting residents in performing physical activities, and in using supportive devices.
  • Instructs physical therapy residents by describing therapeutic regimens; giving normal growth and development information; promoting wellness and health maintenance.
  • Documents resident care services by completing charting in resident and department records.
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy physical therapy treatment environment by adhering to organization standards and policies, and to legal regulations; alerting others regarding potential concerns.
  • Maintains physical therapy production objectives by noting current treatment trends; monitoring actual physical therapy services rendered to production objectives.
  • Keeps physical therapy equipment operating by following operating instructions and established procedures; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
  • Keeps physical therapy supplies ready by checking stock; anticipating needs; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt; stocking items.
  • Maintains resident confidence and protects organization operations by keeping information confidential; cautioning others regarding potential breaches.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of an accredited school for Physical Therapy Assistants and a valid registered license for the state in which employed.
  • Excellent observation, verbal and written communication skills, problem-solving skills, and basic math skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with strong focus on customer service.
  • Proficient use of computers and Microsoft Office: Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Acute care, long-term care and/or rehabilitation experience, preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

The various responsibilities for a Physical Therapy Assistant are often physically demanding and require that therapists be in good physical condition.

  • Required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures, may include extensive reading and frequently operates a computer.
  • Frequently communicates with patients, staff, management, and clients. Must be able to professionally exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Must be able to withstand prolonged or considerable walking, standing, balancing, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, stooping, bending, kneeling, or crouching.
  • Must be able to complete a max assist patient transfer (75% employee, 25% patient) independently.
  • Must be able to otherwise position or transfer patients as well as supplies and equipment.
  • Heavy work, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
