Job Description
TMCOne along with Arizona Pediatric Surgery & Urology are currently recruiting for a physician assistant to provide excellent care to the children of Tucson and Southern Arizona. The ideal candidate will help with rounds within the hospital, discharges and new consults. In addition, the PA will receive training in circumcisions to support the existing advanced practitioner. This role is a mix of clinic and hospital based practice, (however, 80% of the time will be spent in the hospital). Monday-Friday, 6am-2pm, no call, no nights/weekends.
SUMMARY:
Assists the physicians in the management of patients. Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures under the supervision of the physician. Works closely with and assists the physician in providing quality, efficient, ongoing, cost-effective care in-patient, out-patient, and within the designated departmental setting under the direction of the supervising physician.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Examine patients, prescribe medicine, and order diagnostic tests.
Assists in discharge or chronic planning and patient education regarding expectations for recovery and illness.
Orders labs and x-rays per protocol and ensures the results are viewed and acted on under the guidance of the physician.
Completes physical exam, including past history, major medical intervention, medication history, and pertinent family history.
May perform urgent procedures including intravenous or arterial line placement, chest tube placement and bronchoscopy in an emergency situation and after contacting attending physician.
Reviews all scheduled patients on a weekly basis with the physicians or surgeons to ensure completeness of evaluation.
Performs history and physical exam on any direct admission or transfer when no resident is available.
Documents each patient visit including findings, outcomes, and course of treatment.
Dictates history and physical according to TMC standards of time and format.
Documents medical information as provided by reference source and physician.
Confers with supervising physician regarding difficult and complex issues of patient care.
Adheres to TMC organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values, policies and standards.
Performs related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION: Completion of an approved physician assistant program, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
EXPERIENCE: Internship and two (2) years experience strongly preferred!
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: A current Physicians Assistant license in state of Arizona and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and DEA certifications required. Dept Specific: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of physician assistant regulations and practices along with prescribing regulations
Skill in applying medical care.
Skill discharge planning or chronic care planning.
Ability to apply use of Code via CPT and ICD-10.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries or complaints from employees, patients and/or their representatives, and the general public.
Ability to calculate figures and compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
