Job Description

Arizona State University's Center for Negative Carbon Emissions seeks a Pilot Plant Senior Process Engineer. This position is responsible for experimental and demonstration operations, maintenance, and improvements to the ASU Direct Air Capture Pilot Plant Facility.

 

Salary Range

$84,000 - $94,000 per year; DOE

Essential Duties

·       Plans, supervises, and conducts experimental testing and operating campaigns on a pilot plant system.

·       Supervises technicians and coaches students involved in experimentation.

·       Oversees and performs pilot plant facility maintenance, troubleshooting, equipment modifications, execution of expansion projects and management of overall site safety.

·       Interfaces with laboratory personnel and participates in laboratory operations including design, construction, and operation of laboratory systems.

·       Develops experimental design and procedures for scale-up from laboratory to pilot plant testing.

·       Analyzes pilot plant and laboratory experimental results.

·       Translates pilot plant experimental results and analyses to advise and inform the design and operation of production plant systems.

·       Manages the budget and schedule for experimental programs and pilot plant improvement projects.

·       Prepares technical reports, publications, and presentations.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field and eight (8) years of engineering or related experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

 

Desired Qualifications

·       Evidence of a BS or MS in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering

·       Production plant or pilot plant operating experience in chemical, gas or power industries.

·       Experience with plant testing and troubleshooting

·       Evidence of process safety training

·       Demonstrated knowledge of engineering principles and procedures.

·       Knowledge of the principles, practices, developments and techniques used in systems analysis and applications programming.

·       Experience in using AutoCAD.

·       Knowledge of statistical analysis applications (i.e. JMP).

·       Knowledge of thin-film deposition techniques, materials and applications.

·       Skill in communicating technical ideas and designs in a positive and professional manner.

·       Skill in project management techniques.

·       Experience in performing independent scientific research.

·       Ability to identify and develop recommendations for tooling and process requirements.

·       Ability to understand systems, identifies process innovation opportunities and defines necessary improvements, manage change, and lead cross functional teams to implement solutions.

 

Working Environment

·       Activities are performed in an outdoor pilot plant facility, an indoor laboratory facility and an environmentally controlled office setting.

·       Duties will require requiring standing for varying lengths of time and walking moderate distances to perform work

·       Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds

·       Extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse

·       Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts

·       Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
