Position Summary

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced, professional setting? If so, the College of Pharmacy - New Mexico Poison and Drug Information Center (NMPDIC) - is looking for a Temporary Poison Information Specialist to fulfill the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Answer questions from the public and health professionals on the All Hazards emergency Coronavirus/COVID-19 Hotline. Duties include information-searching, provision of evidence-based recommendations, charting, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals in the provision of patient care and triage.
  • Obtain detailed information and accurate history of urgent situations.
  • Provide information on COVID-19; communicates risk assessment, provides resources, and/or information on courses of action to callers in emergency situations, escalates calls to Certified Poison Information Specialists as needed.
  • Ensures complete and accurate documentation of electronic information received for all telephone calls/inquiries into database.
  • Provides assessment of possible viral exposure and follows up as appropriate in accordance with established protocol.
  • Utilizes knowledge and training of crisis intervention techniques.
  • Document patient information and recommendations in patient charts in the Toxicall database.
  • Undertake and/or participate in projects designed to develop professional skills and expertise appropriate to the needs of the COVID-19 Health Hotline and the NM Poison and Drug Information Center.Attend Coronavirus prevention trainings, participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives, activities, and current best practices.

Located in the historically-rich southwest, the College of Pharmacy is part of the UNM Health Sciences campus and works collaboratively with the School of Medicine, College of Nursing, UNM Hospitals, and UNM Cancer Research and Treatment Center in the state's largest health complex. Assignment Details:

Days & Hours: Hours and days will vary with some nights and weekends. Parking is the responsibility of the employee.

Anticipated Start Date: TBD

Projected End Date: 3 months from the start date with potential to extend up to 1 year.

Parking Arrangements: Responsibility of the selected employee

UNMTemps provides staffing solutions to UNM departments requesting temporary employees as positions become available due to a vacancy, when regular employees are absent, for peak work periods, and for special events. As such, UNMTemps assignments/positions may end with little or no advance notice.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy. Certification/LicensureMust be eligible for licensure as a Pharmacist in the State of New Mexico.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient in Excel and Word
  • Experience using electronic clinical database resources
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Be able to type 50 WPM
