Position Summary

Under general supervision, assists in the planning, preparation, design, and installation of museum exhibits, art collections, or other display materials. Designs and constructs display materials as required. Coordinates the packing, moving, maintenance, and security of collections. Work includes the packing, moving, lifting, maintenance, and security of collections for display or other purposes requiring art handling and care.

Maintenance can be dirty/messy and will include dusting of artworks and cleaning displays. Delivery and pick-up of artwork may include driving. Creates and installs gallery labels and other didactic panels for display. May assist with the planning and preparation of printed promotional materials.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Skilled in art handling and crating, carpentry and fabrication and/or exhibition preparation.
  • Ability to package artwork for shipping/delivery.
  • Knowledge of art storage and display method and techniques.
  • Looking for responsible people that can be trained and then left on their own to work on a described task.
  • Requires flexibility in scheduling. This on call position requires approximately 4 weeks of part time work three to four times per year to assist in museum wide exhibition change overs.
