Job Description
The Principal Engineer II, reporting to the Head of Digital Engineering, will work with the Enterprise Digital Team and Retail teams to develop and execute Digital pharmacy strategies. As Principal Engineer II, you will be directly developing and landing ambient digital Pharmacy Initiatives. This lead technical role will compile research and technologies across the organization into one cohesive technical roadmap and in addition, will prove out ambient projects that address our customer challenges. This Engineer will also be heavily involved in API integrations with Rest APIs, Microservices, K8S/Dockers and operating in some serverless environments. The Principal Engineer II will additionally have an opportunity to provide strategic leadership for PBM client API integration.

We are looking for a Principal Engineer II who has experience mentoring/guiding team members, helping drive development decisions and can assist with architectural design decisions. In this role, you will demonstrate executive level qualities, lead the conversation, have an eye for great design, provide hands-on coding as required and have a proven track record of pushing projects from conception to customers. As a Principal Engineer II, you will partner with Architects, Product and Engineer teams in order to articulate the true total value of each technical solution and the overall business outcome.

This Principal Engineer II role will be responsible for:

* Providing technical vision, driving strategy around solutions, solving complex problems, and successfully executing across the Cloud, backend solution, ML and more
* Acting as an executive technical leader across strategic efforts, leveraging partners, technical leads, and technical expertise to better inform processes and outcomes
* Acting as a technical owner across strategic efforts involving the Cloud, backend solution, streaming, ML and more.
* Partnering with technical leaders within CVS and the open source community and contributing to product strategy, frameworks, roadmap definition and requirements-gathering
* Providing domain knowledge and engineering insight to guide early designs, accelerating project decision-making, and maintaining close oversight of technical execution
* Promoting reusability of APIs across various clients while offering configurations
* Encouraging and maintaining engineering excellence on the team to build reliable distributed systems that our customers can build their business on
* Becoming a trusted decision-maker for important projects with high technical or outcome risk
* Developing mindshare by collaborating and discussing ideas
* Plotting and executing on the path from prototype to production for features
* Bringing passion, energy and excitement to the team and organization
* Showing an ability to work in a fast paced environment and deal with multiple priorities

Pay Range
The typical pay range for this role is:
Minimum: 120,000
Maximum: 265,000

Please keep in mind that this range represents the pay range for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual salary offer will take into account a wide range of factors, including location.

Required Qualifications
* 10+ years experience in systems analysis and application program development
* 3+ years experience in building Enterprise solutions and managing client requirements and technical solutions
* 2+ year experience with Confluent Kafka or open source distributions
* 3+ years of experience with cloud computing technologies. Possess a track record developing in GCP/Azure or similar public cloud environment
* 5+ years of development experience in one or more of the following languages: Java, Nodejs, Scala, C++, Perl, Python
* 5+ years of experience with Agile software development
* 2+ years of experience in one or more of the following DevOps tools: Kubernetes, Argo, GIT, Jenkins, Maven, JUnit, Docker, JMeter, Artifactory
* 2+ years of experience working on CI/CD Pipeline automation

Preferred Qualifications
* Experience working with distributed teams, working across multiple time zones and geographies.
* Experience working in a research environment
* Experience in the health and wellness domain
* Experience working as full stack development when needed
* Experience developing user-facing features and/or apps.
* Ability to influence and inspire teams to align technical direction
* Ability to create and execute on roadmaps that consider both progress and innovation as well as the need to scale reliably
* Have contributed to open source technology and Developed patents
* Ability to learn/work with emerging technologies, methodologies, and solutions in the Cloud/IT technology space
* Ability to collaborate across organizational boundaries, build relationships, and achieve broader organizational goals.

Education
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or equivalent work experience is required
