DESCRIPTION:

Responsible for the administration of all facets of the high school educational program directed toward the optimal educational development of each individual student.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):

  • Organize, supervise, implement, and evaluate all educational programs at the school site in accordance with district wide goals, instructional priorities and NCLB standards and guidelines.
  • Provide a safe and orderly environment for staff and students and establish and maintain an effective learning climate in the school.
  • Direct the planning, implementation and evaluation of fiscal management and all functions which facilitate the instructional program and health and safety and students of the school.
  • Supervise and evaluate the performance of all school site personnel in accordance with the District's adopted evaluation policies.
  • Identify services and resources necessary to assist in the implementation of an effective educational program.
  • Develop and implement a master schedule as well as an effective pupil guidance and counseling program.
  • Establish strong positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community for the support of an effective instructional program.
  • Attend various student functions taking place during the school year.
  • Supervise the operation of the school's buildings and grounds.
  • Supervise auxiliary services including safety programs, testing programs, textbooks, and equipment.
  • Develop a master plan of class organization and school operation.
  • Supervise the attendance program and procedures.
  • Implement the collective bargaining contracts for certificated and classified employees as they relate to personnel supervised.
  • Serve on various District committees for improvement of curriculum instruction and other issues.
  • Establish a program of community relations to support and communicate the education goals to parents, community organizations, and the public.
  • Confer with students, parents, and teachers to resolve individual student academic and behavioral issues or concerns.
  • Analyze student performance data in relation to P.I. status, CAHSEE, High School Graduation Rates and CSTs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent and/or Associate Superintendents.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Credentials and Experience:

  • California Administrative Services Credential.
  • Master's Degree.
  • Three years of successful, full-time experience. This experience may be teaching, pupil personnel work (school psychology, school counseling, etc.), health services or clinical or rehabilitative services.
  • Site administration experience at secondary level preferred.
  • EL Authorization preferred.

License Required:

  • Possession of a valid and appropriate California Drivers License. Insurability by District Liability Insurance Carrier may be required. May be required to provide own transportation to sites during workday.

Knowledge of:

  • Curriculum development, instructional program delivery strategies and program supervision.
  • Assessment and evaluation techniques utilized to appraise program quality and personnel performance.
  • Human relations strategies, conflict resolution strategies and team building techniques.
  • Counseling and guidance and discipline techniques.
  • Education Code and Board Policies.
  • District, State, and Federal policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Current research related to instruction and learning.

Ability to:

  • Direct, lead, and coordinate the many components of school operations.
  • Set school wide operational priorities and manage time effectively.
  • Demonstrate effective instructional, organizational, and administrative leadership.
  • Analyze problems, identify potential solutions and make appropriate and effective decisions.
  • Establish and maintain effective organizational and community relationships.
  • Work in a diverse socio-economic and multicultural community.
  • Communicate effectively in oral and written form.

Incorporated within one or more of the previously mentioned performance responsibilities, which are essential functions of this job description, are the following essential physical requirements:

  • Ability to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations.
  • Ability to circulate for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to see for purposes of reading laws and codes, rules and policies and other printed matter and observing students.
  • Ability to understand speech at normal levels.
  • Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand normal conversation.
