Job Description
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The position of Principal, Middle School is responsible for the administration of all facets of the middle school educational program directed toward the optimal educational development of each individual student.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Enforce all state and district rules, regulations and policies in the school.
- Assume responsibility for the care and maintenance of the school and its equipment.
- Provide for appropriate routines and procedures which will ensure proper supervision of students in the school, on the campus, and on the school bus before, during and after school hours.
- Manage the budget for the school.
- Assign and supervise the duties and responsibilities of the staff in the school.
- Provide the leadership and supervision for the development and the implementation of the curriculum of the school.
- Develop and implement an effective pupil guidance and counseling program.
- Responsible for the general management and discipline of the school.
- Assist in the selection, retention and promotion of certificated and non-certificated personnel.
- Responsible for the formal evaluation of teachers and administrators, both probationary and permanent, by classroom visitation and/or observation.
- Continuously engage in the evaluation and improvement of teaching methods and procedures.
- Require teachers to keep a record of work and to formulate long-range and short-range lesson plans.
- Utilize the services and resources of the District Office to the best advantage of the school.
- Develop and maintain public relations for the educational program of the school.
- Responsible for all local school news releases.
- Serve on various District committees for improvement of curriculum, instruction and other issues.
- Analyze student performance data.
- Carry out such additional duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Superintendent.
- Oversee the implementation of the collective bargaining agreements for certificated & classified employees as they relate to personnel supervised.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Credentials and Experience
- California Administrative Services Credential.
- Masters Degree required.
- Three years of successful, full-time experience. This experience may be teaching, pupil personnel work (school psychology, school counseling, etc.), health services or clinical or rehabilitative services.
- Site administration experience.
- EL Authorization preferred.
License Required:
- Possession of a valid and appropriate California Drivers License. Insurability by District Liability Insurance Carrier may be required. May be required to provide own transportation to sites during workday.
Knowledge of:
- State and district rules and regulations.
- Collective bargaining agreements and contract management.
- Categorical funding and program requirements.
- District, State and Federal policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
- Current research related to instruction and learning.
- Human relations strategies, conflict resolution strategies and team building techniques.
Ability to:
- Direct, lead and coordinate the many components of school operations.
- Set school wide operational priorities and manage time effectively.
- Demonstrate effective instructional, organizational and administrative leadership.
- Analyze problems, identify potential solutions and make appropriate and effective decisions.
- Establish and maintain effective organizational and community relationships.
- Work in a diverse socio-economic and multicultural community.
- Communicate effectively in oral and written form.
Incorporated within one or more of the previously mentioned performance responsibilities, which are essential functions of this job description, are the following essential physical requirements:
- Ability to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations.
- Ability to circulate for extended periods of time.
- Ability to see for purpose of reading laws and codes, rules and policies and other printed matter and observing students.
- Ability to understand speech at normal levels.
- Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand normal conversation.
