Position to start:
Primary Function: The Principal is hired by the President with the approval of the Carmelite Provincial Council and the Board of Directors. The Principal reports directly to the President. The Principal models, communicates and implements the Catholic, Carmelite mission of Salpointe on campus and in our community. The Principal partners with the President to set the vision for the school and is responsible for the day-to-day academic operations of the school. The Principal supervises the following school administrative personnel: Assistant Principal for Academics, Assistant Principal for Student Services, Athletic Director, and Director of Systems Administration.
The ideal candidate for this position will meet the following qualifications:
  • Faith-filled, practicing Catholic, required
  • Five to eight years experience as a principal in a Catholic secondary school
  • Valid principalship certificate
  • Experience leading national and regional accreditation processes
  • Advanced degree (MA or PhD) in Educational Leadership or related field
  • Expertise in secondary educational curriculum design
  • Excellent verbal, written and digital communication skills
  • Excellent relationship building and interpersonal skills

The Principal is responsible to key leadership persons, groups and/or institutional goals as follows:
BOARD OF DIRECTORS:
  • Serves as a voting, ex-officio member of the Board of Directors and on Board committees related to the Principals responsibilities, including but not limited to the Academic Committee, Athletic Committee, Finance Committee, Facilities Committee and Strategic Planning Committee
  • Presents quarterly Principals report and supplies information to the Board as requested
PRESIDENT:
  • Works cooperatively and in close partnership with the President, who is ultimately responsible for the implementation of the school mission, vision and philosophy
  • Serves as a member of the Presidents Executive Team
  • Accepts delegated responsibility for the supervision and administration of academic personnel and programs
  • Accepts delegated responsibility for developing, assessing and implementing Salpointe Catholics vibrant, challenging college prep, honors and Advanced Placement curriculum, extensive and holistic student services programming and competitive athletic opportunities to meet the diverse needs of all students
FACULTY AND STAFF
  • Functions as the pastoral leader
  • Supervises the hiring, retention and release of personnel who are responsible for the academic success of students and assigns responsibilities and teaching duties to such personnel
  • Develops and maintains job descriptions and provides supervision, evaluation and professional development for appropriate faculty, administrators and staff that continues to elevate employees to the highest levels of competence and performance
  • Provides and designs programs that enable faculty to be certified in Catholic training as required by the diocese and by accrediting agencies
  • Approves all programs and costs that are necessary for faculty/staff training
  • Schedules and produces all faculty meetings and in-service programs
  • Supports the continued growth of the faculty as a Professional Learning Community
  • Collects and maintains all faculty records in conjunction with Human Resources
  • Chairs faculty/staff meetings and department chair meetings (or delegates to Assistant Principal for Academics)
  • Approves all trips and field trips sponsored by Salpointe Catholic
  • Works with the Educational Technology Coordinator to develop the annual technology professional development schedule for faculty, supports the 1:1 Chromebook initiative and digital literacy goals for students
CURRICULUM AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
  • Identifies, researches and implements the highest caliber of curriculum design and carefully oversees the implementation in all facets of the academic program
  • Supports the leadership of the Assistant Principal for Academics in designing the managerial roles of the DCPs and in supplying the proper training for the growth of school-wide academic initiatives such as the Professional Learning Community program
  • Advocates and assures that the Catholic identity of the school is maintained through all academic and co-curricular initiatives and activities
  • Establishes relationships with external educational entities, such as the University of Arizona, to bring professional support to Salpointe Catholic in academics, STEM and other areas
  • Works with the Assistant Principal for Academics on individual instructional projects and problem resolution
PUBLIC RELATIONS
  • Actively participates in the marketing and recruiting efforts of the school directed towards maintaining the number and quality of student enrollment in conjunction with the Advancement Director and Admission Director
  • Acts as an ambassador of Salpointe Catholic at local Catholic, public, private and charter elementary and middle schools, represents Salpointe Catholic to appropriate public agencies, attends Diocese of Tucson meetings, social and/or fundraising functions, participates in appropriate advancement, foundation, parent association and alumni activities and celebrations
  • Maintains professional relationship with the NCEA and other Catholic school associations
  • Contributes to the public relations efforts of the school by supplying information and materials for publication
  • Represents Salpointe Catholic at Diocesan principals meetings
  • Encourages academic articulation programs with elementary school principals and teachers
STUDENTS AND PARENTS
  • With the Assistant Principal for Student Services, supervises the academic and student life procedures and programs
  • Collaborates in the admission process
  • Oversees the implementation of discipline policies and procedures in conjunction with the Assistant Principal for Student Services
  • Oversees all student activities, publications, and extracurricular programs
  • Oversees the discipline program of the school; oversees the dismissal of any student for any reason in consultation with the President and the Assistant Principal for Student Services
  • Oversees alcohol and drug policy implementation including Community of Concern and drug testing program in conjunction with Assistant Principal for Student Services
  • Collaborates with the Director of Advancement and Director of Systems Administration to maintain a clear, easily accessible plan to ensure that parent-school communication is timely, efficient, personal and productive
  • Oversees the annual review and revision of the Parent-Student Handbook in conjunction with the Assistant Principal for Student Services
  • Provides for regular parent/teacher conferences and other parent/teacher programs
  • Responds immediately to parents, is available for any requested parental consultation, meets with alumni and visitors to the school as needed
FINANCE OFFICE
  • Assists the Chief Financial Officer in financial planning and budgeting for all academic, athletic, and student services programs
  • Maintains working relationships with government funding agencies in order to receive federal and state monies
  • Signs/approves all academic and student services departmental expenditures in conjunction with appropriate Director
OPERATIONS TEAM
  • Conducts the operational business of the school in collaboration with other administrators through the formation and continuance of an Operations Team, including the president, COO/CFO, assistant principals, directors
  • Supports and provides professional development for all members of the school in an appropriate manner, and ensures periodic professional development performance review throughout the year
  • Maintains responsibility for all forms and information of an academic nature as requested by governmental agencies or organizations with which Salpointe Catholic is affiliated
  • Prepares and updates all academic information that is printed or published; collaborates with the Director of Advancement regarding the messaging and presentation of such material
  • Determines and maintains the school calendar and its publication
SCHOOL EVALUATION
  • Prepares Salpointe Catholic for the continuing accreditation process and conducts appropriate quarterly and annual reviews for continuous school-wide assessment and evaluation in coordination with the Director of Systems Administration
CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER/CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER (COO/CFO)
  • Communicates and coordinates with the President, CFO, Financial Aid/Account Manager in the resolution of matters related to delinquent accounts
  • Supports daily food service operations with Assistant Principal, COO and Deans to ensure efficient and orderly distribution of lunch; coordinates with the COO and Food Service Chef for special in-service dining functions for faculty/staff
  • Serves on the Incident Response Team and as a leader in the schools Incident Command System; supports CFO in directing campus security and access control personnel
  • Communicates issues and matters related to facilities, custodial and maintenance needs to the COO
  • In collaboration with President and COO develops long term facilities needs and improvement and renovation plans
  • Communicates and coordinates special event setup and maintenance requests as needed per Principals areas of responsibilities
  • Communicates to the CFO/COO on matters and issues related to risk management and special insurance needs for onsite and offsite school events
Human Resources
  • Works closely with the Director of Human Resources to evaluate candidates for each academic position, sits on the interview committee and is an integral part of the decision-making process
  • Assists Human Resources with employee concerns and works closely to determine the required course of action
  • Assigns, along with the Assistant Principal for Academics, the Department Chair of each department and works closely with the employee to support them in meeting the required functions of the job
  • Serves on committees to evaluate and choose the benefit plans, such as insurance and 401(k), provided to employees
Physical/Mental Requirements: The Principal shall have and demonstrate coordination and manual dexterity, normal mental and visual capabilities, and the ability to lift as required in a normal office environment.

Required Activities: Walking, sitting, standing, stooping, reaching, talking, handling, hearing, carrying, and keyboarding.
