Position Summary

The UNM Clinical and Translational Science Centers Community Engagement and Research Core (CERC) is seeking a knowledgeable, detail oriented, bilingual (Spanish/English) Community Research Specialist to join our dynamic team. The mission of the CERC is to provide research infrastructure that supports academic and community stakeholders to engage in mutually beneficial partnerships for effective clinical and translational research. The CERC provides expertise in the full spectrum of the research process that supports an expansion of research within communities in New Mexico.
In the scope of research being conducted through the CERC, the duties and responsibilities of the Program Specialist are as follows:
Works closely with the Sr. Program Manager to plan, coordinate, and implement the CERC component activities, research, and special projects designed to achieve the overall mission, goals, and objectives of the program.
Serves as a liaison for community-based research projects and as a research-based liaison between the scientific and clinical communities as required. Utilizes current knowledge of the field to enhance communications and understanding of CERC projects among targeted communities.
Performs a range of community-engaged and qualitative research activities, including 1) community engagement and outreach; 2) study coordination and project implementation (e.g., study orientation, recruitment, data collection, dissemination); 3) qualitative interviewing and focus group facilitation; 4) qualitative data analysis; and 5)Spanish language services (e.g., coordination, interpretation, translation).
Creates, produces, and delivers a range of promotional, educational, and informational presentations and/or resource materials related to the CERC. Participates as appropriate in the creation, presentation, and/or dissemination of results, including attendance at meetings and conferences and development of manuscripts, abstracts, newsletters, handouts, and website materials.
Provides technical assistance in the design and development of grant applications, presentations, and manuscripts.
Provides and/or coordinates (with other program staff) the provision of technical guidance, consultation, and related support to program investigators, research participants and various other team members. Provides problem solving as necessary.
Participates in experiment design; may develop and/or coordinate research protocols.
May lead, guide, and train staff/student employees, interns, and/or volunteers performing related work; may participate in the recruitment of volunteers, as appropriate to the area of operation.
Traveling across the state, based on study needs.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties, as assigned.
TERM APPOINTMENT; FUNDING AVAILABLE THROUGH 06/20/2021; CONTINUANCE BEYOND THAT DATE SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY OF ADDITIONAL FUNDING. The CTSC is a grant funded facility and the CTSC grant has been renewed for another 5-year award.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 6 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Someone who can read, write, and speak English and Spanish fluently.
Experience in community-engaged research.
Experience in qualitative research (e.g., interviews, focus groups, and analysis).
