POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for conducting juvenile detention center operational reviews within the state for those facilities that fall under the authority of the Arizona Juvenile Detention Standards. This position will ensure compliance with juvenile detention standards, funding agreements, rules, federal and state law, and local policies/procedures; assesses detention centers physical plant and programming capabilities; prepares written and verbal reports and produces monthly status reports on detention center issues; identifies compliance issues with the Arizona Juvenile Detention Standards and makes recommendations for coming into compliance; and participates in identifying and securing funding opportunities for detention-related projects and needs.

This position will also actively seek out and recommend promising juvenile justice programs in collaboration with community organizations and governmental agencies, staff strategic initiative projects, and provide technical assistance regarding prevention, intervention and recidivism reduction programs to the community and governmental entities.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

The successful candidate will have a bachelors degree in Justice Studies, Public Administration, Behavioral Science or related field. Combination of five years juvenile/criminal justice, social services, court operations, and/or auditing experience. Experience using Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Excellent writing, verbal and analytical skills. Must have the Ability to work effectively under deadlines and in pressure situations, work independently with minimal supervision, as well as handle and prioritize multiple tasks and inquiries effectively. This position also requires a valid divers license.

The preferred candidate will have thorough knowledge of the juvenile justice system, policies and procedures and an understanding of Arizona's criminal justice system. Knowledge of basic acceptable accounting practices and principles and financial audit techniques, and familiarity with case and records management principles and techniques.

Travel level: up to 20%
