Job Description

Job Title: Project Manager, (Architect or Civil Engineer) Status: Full Time

Exemption Status: Exempt Salary Grade: 33

Department/Location: Diocese of Tucson Bishop Kicanas Pastoral Center / Tucson, AZ

Primary Function: Under the direction of the Moderator of the Curia and the administrative direction of the CFO is responsible for the oversight and administration of the temporal goods of the Diocese and the administration of the property, building and construction. The Employee shall be a minister of the Gospel and Catholic Teaching behaviorally while at work and in his/her personal life, "Live in a manner worthy of the call you have received." (Eph. 4:1)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Recognize and support the unique Catholic Mission of the Diocese by speaking, acting, and instructing consistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. The employee may not espouse, in word or deed, any doctrine inconsistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Give evidence of living Gospel values by being an active member of a faith community and being open to the importance of a personal faith journey; strive to model the teaching of Jesus by attitude and example.
  • Develop, coordinate, facilitate, manage, organize, implement, and perform, with effectiveness, timeliness, accuracy, and attention to detail, the activities of the Property Services within the framework of Catholic Doctrine and Catholic Principles of morality.
  • Manage Property personnel in accordance with applicable employment related laws and diocesan personnel policies practices and procedures.
  • Manage the development of all new construction, renovations and restoration work of parish, school, and administrative properties.
  • Sell, purchase, and lease land and other parish or other diocesan property as required; prepare and review all applicable contracts.
  • Manage and maintain multiple properties related to the Diocese of Tucson.
  • Work with parishes to develop budget and secure financing for construction projects.
  • Maintain all property and construction files.
  • Administer and manage the Diocesan Risk Management Program.
  • Ensure timely preparation of property tax documents to all properties.
  • Perform in capacity of facilities manager for the Pastoral Center
  • Fosters communication and works collaboratively with all Diocesan personnel; treats all in a friendly and professional manner that reflects positively on the Diocese.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships and procuring services of architects, engineers, contractors, suppliers, and real estate professionals.
  • Develop and collaborate for long-term strategic plans for Diocese expansion projects.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of relevant construction and property management issues, laws, building codes, and regulations; continues professional education in relevant areas.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Bishop of the Diocese of Tucson, the Moderator of the Curia, or the CFO.
Physical/Mental Requirements: Requires coordination and manual dexterity, normal mental and visual ability; ability to lift as required in a normal office environment.

Required Activities: Walking, sitting standing, stooping, reaching, climbing ladders, driving long distances, working outdoors, talking, handling, hearing, carrying, and keyboarding.

Basic Qualifications:
  • A working knowledge of, and a strong commitment to the mission of fostering lay leadership in the Catholic Church; must also be a practicing Roman Catholic in full communion with the Church.
  • Excellent communications skills including written, verbal, public speaking, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent human relations and interpersonal skills; must be a self-starter and be well-organized; must be a team player.
  • Ability to perform reviews of construction, maintenance, purchase, lease, real estate, and easement agreements, and an understanding of real property legal descriptions and surveys.
  • Basic understanding of budgets and financial statements.
  • Be able to travel and be available for evening and weekend work as necessary; have reliable transportation.
  • Be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in the use of computer technology including word processing and the use of excel and related technology; ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Flexibility in assessing needs and strategies and adapt appropriately in a ministerial environment.
  • The ability to successfully complete a criminal history and background check.
  • Professional bearing and clean and neat personal appearance.
Education and Experience:
  • A minimum of a masters degree in architecture or facilities management or equivalent.
  • Five+ years practical experience in facilities management.
  • Five+ years experience in an architecture, engineering, and construction environment.
  • Knowledge of commercial construction policies; understanding of building and fire codes and regulations.
Other Skills and Abilities:
  • Proficiency in Spanish is preferred.
  • Professional Registration is preferred.
