Executive Summary of Position:

The Quality Assurance Underwriter is responsible for performing pre-funding audits to determine whether approved loans have been underwritten in compliance with AmeriFirsts underwriting, investor, government and FNMA/FHLMC/GNMA guidelines. The QA Underwriter is responsible for communicating deficiencies to the Underwriting/ Processing Department and confirming corrective action.

Essential Duties:

  • Review/analyze loan files that have been approved by Underwriting to ensure the file meets loan program requirements. Includes individual analysis of: Loan application, Credit profile/report(s), Debt and assets, Income/financial statements, Loan values/loan-to-value ratios, Appraisal reports, and Collateral and supporting documentation.
  • Identify loan deficiencies and calculate the risk grade on each (Pass, Caution, Fail).
  • Communicate deficiencies to the Underwriting/Processing Group and confirm that corrective action has been taken.
  • Revisit loans to review and clear deficiencies.
  • Escalate files with suspected fraud to the Quality Control Manager.
  • Identify quality trends and work with Management to recommend and drive corrective action.
  • Performing in-house targeted audits

Other Duties:

  • Handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Lead by example in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
  • Promote and participate in a positive teamwork environment through example and sharing of knowledge and skill.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures.
  • Report any potential or actual violations of such policies, practices and procedures to Supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by upper management.

Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years of residential mortgage underwriting experience
  • Experience working with DU,LP and GUS
  • Knowledge of FHA, VA, USDA, FNMA and FHLMC policies and guidelines
  • Knowledge of mortgage loan processing, compliance, investor products and underwriting guidelines
  • Knowledge of mortgage insurance (MI) guidelines
  • Working knowledge of various fraud tools
  • Appraisal review skills/experience
  • DE certification and Chums preferred
  • VA LAAP/SAR preferred
