Characteristics of Position:

All employees are expected to effectively support the agency's mission to provide consumer-centered care to those with substance disorders or with co-occurring substance and psychiatric disorders. Employees are expected to engage consumers in continuing care and treatment by using interventions which are diagnosis-specific, and communicate empathically with clients regarding addiction, mental illness, medications and recovery. Promotes client's self-determination, personal responsibility and empowerment inherent in self-directed recovery; facilitates and teaches clients role recovery elements

Conduct psycho-educational groups, promote consumer empowerment, assist with admission and consumer access to entitlements and other resources.

LOCATION: Tampa, FL

Pre-requisite Requirements:

  • High school and three years of direct service experience in a substance abuse or mental health treatment or recovery setting. Personal recovery experience will be considered on a year for year basis for up to two years of the required experience. A Bachelor's degree in a health or human services field may substitute for two years of the experience.
  • Must possess competencies specific to the service/s provided. Competencies may include life experience, training, certification, education or other background in the service area.
  • All ACTS, Inc. employees must be able and willing to work when expected to accommodate program and/or agency needs, participate in the agency's Quality Improvement Program and attend all assigned/required trainings, practice on-the-job safety at all times, and demonstrate the ability to communicate and work with others and be respectful of peers, supervisors, clients, guests, etc. If required by contract or administrative rule, must fully participate in NAPPI (crisis intervention) training and able to apply same to work setting.

Preferred :

  • Certified Recovery Support Specialist Certificate

Quality of Work Expected: Level commensurate with satisfactory Peer Support Specialist performance

Quantity of Work Expected: Commensurate with level necessary to fully meet obligations

Scope of Responsibilities: Conduct psycho-educational groups, promote consumer empowerment, assist with admission and consumer access to entitlements and other resources.

Supervision: Work is performed under the supervision of a Program Administrator, Director or Supervisor. This position does not provide supervision to others.

Core Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Adheres to agency designated model for treating persons with substance and/or co-occurring mental disorders; promotes consumer's self-determination, personal responsibility and empowerment inherent in self-directed recovery; facilitates and teaches clients role recovery elements such as engagement in the recovery process, developing readiness for work or meaningful life activities, choosing valued roles and achieving these roles in the community
  • Conducts psycho-educational groups; assists consumer in peer group support to facilitate problem solving, communication skills development and personal growth; support in achieving recovery goals as reflected in the consumer's screening, assessment, treatment plan or discharge summary.
  • Provides services within area/s of competency, i.e. life experience, training, certification, education or other background in the service area; seeks direction from Program Director/Administrator when clients' needs fall outside area/s of competency and maintains up-to-date knowledge and written materials of community resources and recovery philosophy.
  • Performs related work as required / assigned.

PROGRAM SPECIFIC:

The following duties and responsibilities are specific to this position:

  • May assist consumer with admission and orientation process, aids in understanding services necessary to accomplish and sustain recovery; guides and helps consumer in accessing entitlements and other resources, i.e. medical/health, educational coordination and support, vocational, employment, etc.; aids in choosing and developing natural supports by non-traditional treatment providers such as schools, churches and clubs

Specialized Duties/ Tasks

  • Must possess valid Florida driver's license, industry accepted driving history and maintain vehicle insurance required by State of Florida. If required to drive an ACTS' vehicle, must maintain drivers' license and history as listed above and participate in all transportation-related training activities, including on-the-road driving test relative to appropriate and safe operation of motor vehicles.
  • Attends monthly team meetings and monthly clinician meetings
  • Assists with monthly billing and submission to administration offices
  • May transport clients to Agency and community treatment or support services. Remains with clients through daily activities
  • Serves as Training Liaison
