Major/Essential Functions
A job involving an appointment for infrequent work where the employee is called in as needed, this position is responsible for assuring smooth operation of the clinic patient flow. Employees serve as primary contacts for patients and are responsible for scheduling appointments, preparing necessary paperwork before the patient visits, receiving patients, and maintaining records. In addition, this position is responsible for processing charges for clinic services, filing insurance claims, responding to requests for information from patients and insurance companies and maintaining related information
for the department.
-Processes required authorizations set by insurance companies for specialty medications or in office procedures.

-Responsible for patient referrals under the Department of Neurology. Duties include managing and obtaining pre-authorizations and work with associated faculty & insurance companies towards patient scheduling.

- Schedule patient's appointments accordingly by Department guidelines.

Position Specific: High School diploma or GED. 1 year Customer Service, or related experience. Additional education may substitute for the experience requirement. Excellent interpersonal skills. The ability to read and comprehend instructions and write messages. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Display knowledge of personal computers to include the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Well-organized and able to manage multiple duties and ability to use general office machines.

Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual: English/ Spanish. Experience working in a Neurology Clinic or Ambulatory Clinic setting for at least 1 year. Knowledge of insurance authorization process and referral process for specialty clinics.
