Unit Information: Adult ICU

The Adult Critical Care Unit at Tucson Medical Center is a 28 bed unit that was recognized with a gold-level Beacon Award for Excellence by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. The Beacon Award for Excellence a significant milestone on the path to exceptional patient care and healthy work environments recognizes unit caregivers who successfully improve patient outcomes and align practices with AACNs six Healthy Work Environment Standards. The gold-level Beacon Award for Excellence signifies excellent and sustained unit performance and patient outcomes.

This unit includes three areas:

Unit 450:

This is a 16 bed unit providing care for critically ill patients with a variety of neuro, surgical (general, neuro and vascular) and other medical problems. TMC is a comprehensive stroke center so unit focuses on neurological and neuro-surgical disorders utilizing certified neuro nurses. This unit also includes patients that are post code requiring target temperature management, CRRT, Ventriculostomies and EKOS. Staff utilizes a supportive and collaborative approach to interactions with the patients and their families. All staff are CPR and ACLS certified. Other cerifications include FCCS, CCRN and CNRN.

Unit 480:

This is a 12 bed Cardiac Intensive Critical Care. TMC has the busiest heart program in southern Arizona that recovers generally 2-4 open hearts five days per week (CABG, AVR, MVR, TVR, TAVR). Our patient population consists of open hearts, TAVRs, thoracotomies, MI's, IABP, Impella, CRRT, swans, sepsis, post codes, unstable heart blocks, unstable cardiac patients, post pacemakers, post lead extractions, heart failure, patients requiring vasopressors, intubated patients, vascular surgeries and EKOS. All staff is CPR and ACLS certified. Other certifications include FCCS, CCRN, CSC and CMC.

Unit 470:

This unit is an 8 bed overflow.

REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: Graduation from a qualified, nationally-accredited nursing program.

EXPERIENCE: One year of nursing experience in an acute care setting preferred.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: Current RN licensure permitting work in the State of Arizona and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Some departments such as OR, Ambulatory Surgery, Pediatrics/PICU, PACU, and GI Lab will require advanced life support certification (ACLS and PALS).
