Job Description

The ASU Knowledge Enterprise is seeking a motivated Pre-Award Research Advancement Specialist to assist their Biodesign Research Opportunity Advancement and Development (ROAD) team. Under the supervision of the Research Advancement Manager, you would support research investigators in the area of proposal preparation and assist in advancing the Institute and University's research goals.

As the ideal candidate for this position, you will be someone who enjoys being part of a collaborative, fast-paced team environment that directly supports sponsored Pre-award activity for researchers at ASU. You should also be someone who is skilled in attention to detail, values continuous improvement, enjoys complex problem

solving, and is looking to grow their research administration skills.


Salary Range

$42,000- $57,930 per year; DOE

Essential Duties

  • Performing funding searches to help identify opportunities.
  • Assisting with post-submission action items requested by the sponsor such as Just-in-Time requests.
  • Working to support researchers with pre-award proposal submissions, which includes the review of funding announcements for eligibility and requirements, development of proposal plan, budget development, proposal generation, and overall review to confirm compliance to funding requirements, and facilitates submission with ORSPA.
  • Maintaining departmental databases.
  • Assisting the Manager with special projects to further the mission of the Institute.
  • Participating in units’ staff meetings and activities as related to research administration.
  • Independently responding to and initiating correspondence regarding matters pertaining to assigned functions.
  • Performing other job-related duties as needed by the department.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field. One year directly related experience; OR Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been achieved.

  • Experience in following directions set by unit and/or supervisor.
  • Experience in providing ideas and recommendations to resolve routine issues.

  • Experience in communicating effectively.
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective professional working relationships.
  • Experience in assisting with data gathering and initial analysis.
  • Experience supporting a customer group and working with other internal university contacts.

  • Climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of being in a stationary position.
  • Constantly detects and operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer.
  • Ability to clearly communicate and exchange accurate information to perform essential duties.
  • Expected to be responsive to customers, engaged in work production, resourceful, flexible, and respectful of others.
