Position Summary
This staff position is associated with the UNM Post-baccalaureate Research and Education Programs (PREP and Cancer-PREP), thus only those individuals applying to PREP should file an application. Provides technical assistance, as assigned, in the collection, processing, and coordination of data, samples, and/or specimens for a specified research study or group of studies. Works within established research protocol and under specific instructions as to method, process, and technique to perform or assist with routine tests, experiments, and/or procedures relevant to the field of study.

Under general supervision, performs standardized and/or prescribed data collection and analytical procedures for a specified life sciences field research study. Collects and prepares data, biological samples, and/or specimens, and conducts a variety of standardized tests and/or analyses in accordance with detailed protocol and procedural specifications. Participates as appropriate in the interpretation of field research data and in the publication, and/or presentation of results.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities which may include practicum.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrate a commitment to pursuing a Ph.D. or career in a biomedical science or cancer research field.


Be a recipient of a Bachelors degree in a relevant field.

Additional Requirements Provide at least three (3) professional or academic letters of reference. The letters should address how participation in PREP will help the applicant achieve the stated career goals. At least two of the letters of reference should be from previous supervisors or class instructors and this should be explicitly stated in the letter.
