JOB SUMMARY:

NORC at the University of Chicago is seeking a talented Research Director II to support the Public Health Research Department on suicide prevention and other behavioral health projects.

This position is responsible for managing small projects and/or discrete tasks of complex projects involving training, technical assistance, curriculum and resource development, communications, and design and implementation of evaluations using quantitative and qualitative methods. The work includes responsibility for the schedule, budget, staff, and client relations and requires limited expertise related to operational methods including project design, appropriate data collection procedures, data management, and quality control.

Preferably applicants will be based in either our Chicago, IL or Bethesda, MD offices with a hybrid office/work from home schedule. We are also open to applicants working remotely.

DEPARTMENT: Public Health Research

The Public Health Research team conducts work on a variety of public health topics including chronic disease prevention and health promotion, rural health, health disparities, health care delivery, and social determinants of health. Our team includes prominent health policy experts, nationally recognized public health researchers with general and specialized expertise in areas such as rural health and tribal issues, skilled methodologists, and leaders in the field of survey design and implementation. Our staff also brings expertise in populations of special interest and the intersection of public health and health care delivery. We offer broad, multidisciplinary experiences spanning public health, epidemiology, statistics, policy, developmental psychology, economics, sociology, social work, and political science.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Serve as task/component manager on suicide prevention and other behavioral health projects.
  • Manage the day-to-day performance of all members of the task/component team and may have administrative supervisory responsibilities.
  • Supervise the design and/or delivery of training, technical assistance, and evaluation activities as well as the development of curricula and resources for a variety of audiences.
  • Interact with clients to clarify their needs, report on progress, discuss contractual matters, resolve problems, allay concerns, and provide information and recommendations.
  • Ensure and manage staff mentorship, technical and professional assistance, and other feedback on performance of project/task team members.
  • Engage in business development activities including authoring various sections of the technical proposal.
  • Review project deliverables and ensure quality control, including in some instances revising protocols, curricula, applications, resources, and reports.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Bachelors degree in social sciences, public health or related field, Masters degree preferred.
  • At least 5 years experience in positions of increasing responsibility in suicide prevention/behavioral health research or practice.
  • Strong working knowledge of evidence-based trainings and practices in suicide prevention, with demonstrated experience developing curricula/resources and delivering training and technical assistance to clinics, schools, and/or communities preferred.
  • Must demonstrate effective workplace competencies, including:

    • Effective problem-solving skills
    • Adaptability and willingness to work on multiple projects simultaneously
    • Strong written and verbal communications
    • Attentiveness to detail
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team
    • Proficiency with MS Office/M365 applications.
  • Experience in client communications and relationship management
  • Must have experience managing and mentoring staff
  • Ability to multi-task, with strong time and resource management skills
  • Occasional travel for site visits and meetings may be required

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

The pay range for this position is 83,000 to $122,000. The budgeted range for this role is $83,000 to $95,000.

This position is classified as regular. Regular staff are eligible for NORCs comprehensive benefits program. Benefits include, but are not limited to:
