Position Summary

The Division of Nephrology, within the Department of Internal Medicine, is seeking a full-time candidate who is a detail-oriented, results driven individual to join our team as a Research Scientist 2.

Research Scientist II will assist with a variety of research projects within the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Nephrology. This position is responsible to work with providers in the coordination of patient participation in kidney disease research studies. This position plays a key role in patient safety and monitoring of protocol compliance. The Research Scientist II is responsible for the informed consent of the patient, scheduling of protocol-required appointments, and documentation of side effects and medications. This role works directly with the study PI to assure that the research studies are conducted per protocol expectations and regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Responsible for informed consent of the patient, scheduling of protocol-required appointments, and documentation of side effects and medications.
2. Provide technical assistance on financial issues related to grants and research studies.
3. Oversee multiple research projects to include IRB submissions, data management (collection, entry, and analysis), and adherence to all local, state, and federal guidelines in relation to the conduct of research with human participants.
4.Monitors the progress of research activities; develops and maintains records of research activities, and prepares periodic and ad hoc reports, as required by investigators, administrators, funding agencies, and/or regulatory bodies.
5.Coordinates the day-to-day activities of technical support staff specifically engaged in the carrying out of research/clinical protocol, as appropriate to the position; may perform aspects of research protocol, as required, in accordance with specified program objectives.
6.Recruitment, enrollment, and scheduling of research subjects. Developing and maintaining record keeping systems and procedures
7. Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Conditions of Employment
  • Successful candidate must submit to a post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check. Additional health screenings may be required, dependent on the nature of the research conducted, as determined by Employee Occupational Health Services.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Multi-year lab work experience
  2. Oversee multiple research projects to include IRB submissions, data management (collection, entry, and analysis), and adherence to all local, state, and federal guidelines in relation to the conduct of research with human participants.
  3. Responsible for informed consent of the patient, scheduling of protocol-required appointments, and documentation of side effects and medications.
  4. Provide technical assistance on financial issues related to grants and research studies.
  5. Ability to work flexible hours, as required by study.
  6. Ability to travel, as required by study.
