Overview

The Covey lab is a new laboratory that studies the neural circuit mechanisms of motivated behavior in mice. We are seeking a skilled and extremely motivated technician to join this highly collaborative environment that uses state-of-the-art techniques such as optogenetics, fiber photometry recordings, and viral-genetic approaches for manipulating and monitoring specific cell signaling mechanisms in defined neural circuits. We are particularly interested in how the brain endocannabinoid system regulates dopamine function to guide effort-based decision making, in an attempt to understand fundamental neural underpinnings of motivation, learning, and reinforcement in health and disease.

Primary responsibilities include:

  1. Performing neural recordings and manipulations in mice during complex behavioral tasks
  2. Mouse stereotaxic surgeries
  3. Mouse breeding and colony maintenance
  4. Data collection and analysis
  5. Routine lab maintenance
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a scientific area or with comparable course; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained.

Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of research methodology, principles and procedures. Must have the ability to successfully perform a variety of laboratory procedures using standard laboratory equipment and instruments. Must have the ability to gather, analyze and report data as well as the ability to design, organize, and/or coordinate scientific research projects.

Requires strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work independently and as a part of a team. Preferred computer proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Internet Explorer, Outlook and the ability to learn department-specific computer systems as needed.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

Prior work in a systems neuroscience laboratory

Experience with data analytics and coding (e.g., Matab, Python) is highly valued.

Salary is commensurate with experience.
