Job Description:


Under the supervision of the Program Coordinator the research technician performs duties in both the chemistry lab and the clinical research labs. They will function as the liaison between the clinical and chemistry labs across the translational research sites including clinical partner sites. This individual will perform routine procedures and assist clinical staff in sample collection and processing during research studies. Will have Phlebotomy Certification or a Medical Assistant Certification, with phlebotomy experience. Will be responsible for transport and logging of research specimens and data between the four CHS Clinical and Translational Research Center sites and the chemistry lab. This individual will assist in the performance of exercise testing and lactate analysis and other duties in the exercise labs.




Salary Range:


$13.46 - $19.23 per hour; DOE

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Four years research experience appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications:
• Experience working in a research environment involving human participants
• Clinical research experience (Two years)
• Evidence of a Phlebotomy Certification
• Evidence of a Medical Assistant Certification
• Experience and training in Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
• Experience training students and other staff members

Responsibilities

Essential Duties:
• Consults calendar daily, prepares for study visits at research site; collecting supplies, organizing paperwork or packets and preparing tubes and reagents for sample collection required.
• Liaison between external research sites, faculty, study coordinators, and research staff
• Interacts and transports study participants in the building
• Assists clinical staff in routine research procedures including phlebotomy, fingersticks and blood pressure
• Assists with exercise testing and performance testing at all sites
• Cleans and organizes clinical research space
• Assists with data entry
• Calibration and maintenance oversight of equipment used in the clinical, exercise and chemistry research labs
• Primary employee to conduct sample processing and storage
• Transports supplies and research samples between sites and maintains inventory of frozen samples
• Inventories stock and reorders supplies and restocks research areas
• Assists in chemistry lab with routine duties, pulling samples, maintaining supplies, checking expiration dates, cleaning lab and routine chemistry analysis
• Maintains chemical inventory and SDS sheets at all research sites
• Packages hazardous waste material and arranges for disposal according to EHS procedures; autoclave waste, deposits in drums and logs notifies EHS for pick up
• Trains students and staff in the operation of equipment and/or in the performance of technical procedures.
• Maintains records of clinic and lab use for recharge billing

• Conduct lab tests using appropriate equipment and protocols
