Job Description

This position serves as support for the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera (LROC) Science Operations Center (SOC), in the collection, processing, and analysis of Narrow Angle Camera (NAC) images from the LROC instrument suite. 

 

Salary Range

$20.40-$21.00 per hour; DOE

Essential Duties

Produce high-resolution digital elevation models of the lunar surface using SOCET SET and SOCET GXP by BAE Systems, mapping software for photogrammetry and geospatial analysis.

OR

Produce high-resolution controlled mosaics of the lunar surface using the Integrated Software for Imagers and Spectrometers 3 (ISIS3) by the USGS.

 

Additional Duties:

·         Use image processing and analysis software to assess the accuracy and quality of digital elevation models for use in navigation for upcoming lunar landings.

·        Assist LROC Science team members with data processing tasks, including developing new procedures, to advance research.

·        Compile and distill information from LROC imagery to be included in research papers, posters and talks presented at meetings.

·        Support our education and public outreach efforts through events on campus, off-site, and virtually for ages preschool through adults.

·        Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator or Science Operations Center Manager, or RDR Manager.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Four years research experience appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

 

Desired Qualifications

·        Demonstrated knowledge of remote sensing techniques.

·        Experience in balancing multiple tasks simultaneously.

·        Evidence of effective communication skills.

·        Experience in organization and documentation skills.

·        Experience in remaining detail-oriented while working on large data sets.

·        Demonstrated ability to identify problems and develop mitigation procedures.

·        Experience performing or aiding with research (generating data, performing analysis, and interpreting results).

·        Demonstrated knowledge of image processing concepts and techniques.

·        Demonstrated knowledge of statistics and data characterization/classification methods.

·        Programming or scripting experience.

·        GIS experience.

·        Experience with planetary data sets.

·        Experience with photogrammetry.

 

Working Environment

In-person position in an open and shared office. Use of computers including: inputting, reviewing and retrieving information. Position includes extended periods of screen viewing time and use of mouse and keyboard. Work is in an office setting and includes use of office equipment (e.g. printers, copiers, fax machines, telephones).
