Overview

Lovelace Biomedical Research Institute (LBRI) is seeking a full time Research Technologist to join the trim team. Under general direction, the Research Technologist will perform a variety of tasks in the Pathology, Histology and Necropsy laboratories. Work will include grossing (trimming) in tissue samples for microscopic review, tissue transfers, decaling bones, cassette labeling, assisting in histological preparation of samples, processing animal specimens for clinical pathology analysis, necropsy and administrative support for the pathology/histology department. Work may also include working with animals to perform a variety of routine procedures.

The individual should be willing to work modified schedule as workflows require. Individual will complete moderately complex work assignments as well as documenting laboratory work and maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies, and performing all other related duties and tasks as required or assigned.

Qualifications

Requires a Bachelors degree in a scientific area or comparable course work; or equivalent combination of directly related education and experience.

Ability to follow written standard operating procedures

Ability to document work in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)

Ability to work with chemicals such as Xylene, Alcohols, formalin, and other tissue fixatives

Requires strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work independently and as a part of a team. Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office, as well as the ability to learn department-specific computer systems as needed.

This position may involve work inside the ABSL3 facility which may require vaccinations/immunizations. Candidates must be able to lift up to 20 pounds and wear a respirator. A Post-offer physical and background check are required. Ability to gain and maintain access to Kirtland Air Force base (KAFB) is required.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

One to two (1-2) or more years experience in grossing/trimming preferred.

Familiarity with anatomy and medical terminology. Previous experience working in a laboratory using balances, centrifuges, pipettes, and related equipment.

Salary

Salary is commensurate with experience.
