Job Description

World-renowned residential treatment center seeking a Residential Counselor.

OVERVIEW/SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Residential Counselor is responsible for activities that may include grief groups, didactic lectures, psycho-educational groups, process groups and crisis management with residents. The Residential Counselor will have a daily schedule of activities to follow in facilitating programming and hold lecture groups for residents ranging between 20-70 people. The residential counselor will communicate efficiently with team members and receive supervision as needed.

The Residential Counselor will report to Program Manager and Clinical Director. The Residential Counselor will also work closely across departments with the Nursing, RASC, Residential Therapist and other teams as needed. Residential Counselor may be asked to provide coverage for groups, lectures and activities outside of their assigned duties and will receive training on this, where appropriate.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Conduct or co-facilitate group sessions, under supervision, as scheduled and completes documentation as required.
  • Ensure all documentation regarding patient care, treatment and incidents is completed timely and in a clear, concise manner.
  • Evaluate the need of the resident in crisis intervention and determine if referrals to other programs or facilities is needed.
  • Demonstrate a positive, empathetic and professional attitude towards customers always. When resident needs are not met, acknowledge and work to resolve complaints. Recognize that resident safety is a top priority.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelors Degree in psychology, social work, human services or a related field required

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in a counseling field instruction/ internship or similar practicum through education or certification process preferred
  • Prefer experience in a Behavioral Health setting

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Ability to facilitate psycho-educational groups
  • Ability to facilitate large group experiences
  • Ability to provide individual support for a wide range of diagnoses and behaviors
  • Ability to provide didactic lectures
  • Non-violent crisis management (will train if needed)
  • Multi-cultural sensitivity
  • Excellent time management skills

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of the 12-Steps
